Happy May Day!

New on the menu, just in time for the Derby, and honoring Iran with another cocktail:

RIVAS BERRY JULEP

Taking our classic rhubarb julep and adding seasonal organic strawberries, with 101 bourbon, along with mint, rose, and other Persian flavors. Did you know the word “julep” comes via the Arabic “jallab” and ultimately from Persian “golab”, meaning rose water?

Strawberries, mint, and crushed ice also give it the colors of the Iranian flag. As always, we support peace and freedom for the people of Iran!

Come get one from or other talented bartenders. Salamati, doostan!

Happy Friday! We’ve got two new springtime drinks for you, both based on seasonal ingredients beloved throughout the Middle East

FIRST GOJEH OF SPRING

Whether you call it gojeh in Iraqi Arabic, gojeh sabz in Persian, janerik in the Levant, and yeşil erik in Turkish, the region goes crazy for these sour green unripe plums. There’s gojeh in every drink, as well as , citrus, and other deliciousness.

Then:

SPRING UNITY

Green almonds are in season! Known alternatively as loz akhdhar, cağla, or chaghaleh badoom, the Middle East is united in its love for them!

We mix them up with Forager Gin from our friends to create a green, springtime gin sour.

And what’s more, green almonds are available as a hyper seasonal snack too, available now.

These drinks won’t last long, so come while they’re in season and have or our other talented bartenders shake one up!

It’s habayib!

We have one more, very limited cocktail for you:

SAKURA HIGHBALL

What do both the Middle East and Japan love to drink? Whisky and soda! Japanese highball customs has perfected the art, and so what better whisky to use right now than ??

This one is aged in Sakura wood casks, for a lovely, delicate, floral taste. It’s a subtle highball, full of finesse, that we accentuate a bit more, and garnish with whole dried Sakura blossom.

This follows from our $100 Mai Tai as a “Green Zone Reserve” cocktail, but don’t worry, its much more reasonably priced!

We’re also featuring this whisky on our chalkboard under Spirits We Love, so you can sip it neat for a friendly $12/oz

Available right now for a very limited time. See you soon!

نوروز پيروز! سال نو مبارک!
Newroz pîroz be!

Bringing back the Farvardin cocktail, named for the first month in the Persian calendar, which we’re in now, the first day of Spring and of Nowrouz, celebrated across Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Kurdistan, Anatolia, Azerbaijan, the Balkans, and more.

Heavily influenced by Iranian culture and cuisine, the cocktail’s got saffron, verjus (sour grape juice), and bitters made with a host of Persian spices, herbs, and flowers, all supporting Singani, one of our favorite spirits and one that tastes and smells super springlike with its bright floral notes.

As we said yesterday: we oppose the war on Iran. We oppose tyrannical regimes here and abroad. And we support the Iranian people and their culture.

Come by and have our classic Nowrouz cocktail, and once more, here’s hoping the new year brings a new, free Iran.

We have a brand new cocktail in time for , the Persian new year, and for spring, and for a free Iran.

ARAGH AND ANAR

Made with the first Iranian style aragh in the US, from our friends at .nyc , we turn it into a to a springtime sour with pomegranate (anar) and a few of our touches.

From Sag’s website:

“Aragh sagi is a distilled spirit made from raisins which first originated in Iran. Though it has been banned for decades, it still thrives in underground circles. We created Sag to share this countercultural drink with the broader world, using the finest Californian raisins and distilled in small batches in Yonkers. Neat or mixed in a cocktail, Sag brings the taste of Iran’s underground to you, traveling from far away to bridge the distance between us.

A variant of the raisin-based Aragh Keshmesh (meaning “distilled raisins”), SAG is a contemporary take on the Aragh Sagi, issued by the Meikadeh company in the 1960s. Taking its popular name (literally meaning “distilled dog” and sometimes plainly referred to as ‘dog sweat’) from the image of a beagle on the label, Aragh Sagi has — like all alcohol — been a stray dog in its home country since the Islamic revolution in 1979. Now exiled to illegalized home distilleries and consumed in hiding from the authorities, the history of Aragh Sagi is, however, also the history of a long middle eastern tradition of distillation and consumption of alcohol.”

We oppose the war on Iran. We oppose tyrannical regimes here and abroad. And we support the Iranian people and their culture.

Come try our first ever cocktail with Sag, and here’s hoping the new year brings a new Iran.
