ROCKET SCI is a band on the move. No, really, they are! With drumming duties split between two master drummers who both play standing up and permanently mobile, they are capable of being Pied Pipers leading their audience on a literal shamanistic journey down the street. Kenny Wollesen and Dalius Naujo, the two rhythm kings in question, are rounded out in the lineup by bari/alto sax veteran Jonathon Haffner and guitarist Tony Scherr and the sound the four create is strangely hypnotic and immensely accessible, leaving the listener with infectious themes and melodies ricocheting around the brain. Creating these sounds comes naturally to these gentlemen as one glance at each of their impressive and lengthy big-name resumes will attest (Snarky Puppy, Jack DeJohnette, Tom Waits, John Zorn, Sean Lennon, Bill Frisell, Norah Jones, John Lurie, Laurie Anderson...etc). But the issue here is not glory-by-association, it’s the creation of glorious music in and of itself, and Rocket Sci have an incredible head start on that. Fresh off a week at the Village Vanguard with David Murray, MARTA SANCHEZ returns to Lunatico to present some of her newest music. Marta came to New York in 2011 from Madrid with a Fulbright Scholarship to study for a Master’s in Jazz Piano Performance at NYU. Since then, she has released four quintet albums: “Partenika” (2015), “Danza Imposible” (2017), “El Rayo de Luz” (2019), and SAAM (Spanish American Art Museum). ”Partenika” was selected by The New York Timesas one of the 10 best albums of 2015, and included on the lists of the best recordings of the year from the Jazz Journalist Association, Downbeat and All Music. “Danza Imposible” was highly praised by NPR’s “Fresh Air” and received four stars from DownBeat. “El Rayo de Luz” was included in the The New York Times list of the Best 10 jazz albums of 2019.

Marta recently released a new trio record titled “Perpetual Void” on the Intakt label. The album has been widely praised, including receiving 4.5 stars from Downbeat.

Marta has toured the United States, Europe, South America, and Central America, performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Jazzaldia (San Sebastian), Inntone (Austria), and Winter Jazz Festival (New York). Furthermore, Marta has been working in David Murray’s Quartet, Maria Grand’s duo, and the Anna Weber and Angela Morris Big Band, among others. She is a 2017 and 2021 MacDowell Colony fellow.

Born and raised in Northern California’s Bay Area, ELÉ SALIF HOWELL began drumming at age two. He studied with pianist Art Khu and in the Oaktown Jazz Workshops in Oakland. He apprenticed with drum master Lenny White and tours regularly with NEA Jazz Master saxophonist Gary Bartz and Ravi Coltrane. Elé has performed and recorded with Chief Adjuah(FKA Christian Scott), Brandee Younger, Weedie Braimah, Stanley Clarke, Alain Pérez, among others. Since moving to Los Angeles from her native Guatemala, singer-songwriter-producer GABY MORENO has released eight albums and earned 4 GRAMMY nominations for her albums “Illusion” (Best Latin Pop Album, 2017) , “Alegoría” (Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, 2022), “X Mí (Vol. 1)” (Best Latin Pop Album - 2023) and for producing legendary cuban singer Omara Portuondo’s album “Vida” (Best Latin Tropical Album - 2023). She is also a 5 time nominee and winner of a Latin GRAMMY for “Best New Artist” (2013).

Over her career, Moreno has shared the international stage with music luminaries such as Tracy Chapman, Ani DiFranco, Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile, Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, Buena Vista Social Club, Calexico, David Gray, Los Lobos, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Van D**e Parks and many more. She has had the honor of performing several times at Lincoln Center in NYC and The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

Gaby made her Broadway debut in March 2026 as Persephone in Hadestown.

 Hailing from the vibrant twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, MODUPE ONILU is a musician, percussionist, and cultural innovator whose artistry bridges ancestral rhythms with contemporary expression. He is the son of the legendary drum innovator and organic percussion master Jajah Oga Onilu, and has continued his family’s legacy by redefining the soundscape of Caribbean percussion.
Modupe’s music — rooted in African traditions yet boldly experimental — combines Afro-Caribbean rhythms, spoken word, jazz, electronic textures, and ritualistic soundscapes, aiming to channel music as a tool of healing, storytelling, and cultural reclamation.
Onliu has collaborated with a wide range of local and international artists, and leads educational and spiritual music workshops across the Caribbean and diaspora.

 Percussionist/composer/bandleader SAMUEL TORRES has performed, arranged, produced and/or recorded with a “who’s who” of the jazz, Latin pop and classical worlds, including Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, Alejandro Sanz, Ricky Martin, Richard Bona, Lila Downs, Angelique Kidjo, Marc Anthony, Rubén Blades, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and his country’s own international superstar, Shakira. He has been featured as a composer and soloist with classical orchestras such as Berlin Symphoniker, City of London Sinfonia, Cuban National Symphony, The Bogotá Philharmonic, Medellín Philharmonic, and The Cali Philharmonic. In 2019 Torres won the Latin Grammy Award for the Best Classical Record with his album ‘Regreso’ a concerto for congas and symphony orchestra. He is a three-time recipient of the New Jazz Works Grant by Chamber Music America and received 2nd place at the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in 2000.  With TRIO LIBRE, Torres seeks sounds of intimacy over expansion, deliberately focusing on the exposed texture created by piano, vibraphone, and congas. This special combination of instruments brings us into a delicate musical conversation. Torres elaborates, “The exposed ensemble setting mirrors the emotional landscape of the central suite, We the People, which I conceived during a period of personal uncertainty, mainly due to current sociopolitical factors.”
The compositions on Trio Libre reflect Torres feelings about the vulnerability inherent in our times, balanced by the powerful discovery of solidarity and strength found within our communities, musical and otherwise.
