We’re open as usual with our Friday drinks offers, cosy atmosphere and full table service!

Just a little heads-up — this will be our last Friday open to the public for a couple of weeks, as we’ve got some private events booked in afterwards.

So if you’ve been meaning to enjoy a Friday night at the TD, this is the perfect opportunity. Seating is limited, and booking a table is the best way to make sure you don’t miss out! 🍷

🤠 SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER – COUNTRY NIGHT! 🎸

We’ve got a private event until 6pm, then we’ll be throwing open the doors for our over-25s crowd!

And this Saturday, it’s all things COUNTRY! 🇺🇸

🎤 LIVE MUSIC FROM Niall Barnes – 9PM

Expect some brilliant country tunes, strong drinks and another cracking Saturday night.

With limited seating available, we recommend booking ahead if you’d like to settle in and enjoy the evening comfortably.

We’re a table-service venue on both Friday and Saturday nights, so there’s no queuing at the bar. Just get comfortable, relax and let us bring the drinks to you!

As much as we’d love to squeeze everyone in, once all our seats are taken, we’re full! We don’t operate as a standing-room bar, so booking a table is the easiest way to avoid disappointment.

SOMETHING’S BEEN BREWING DOWN AT THE TD… 🍺

We’ve got some exciting news to share — and this one really sums up how strongly we feel about keeping things local and supporting independent businesses.

From Friday 16th October, we’ll officially have Trail Brew Company on our taps, pouring:

🍺 Dove Stone L***r 4.5%
🍺 Tandle Hill Hazy Pale 4.9%

We can’t wait to work with the Trail Brew guys. We love their brand, we love what they’re doing and, most importantly, they’re another local, family-run independent business just a stone’s throw away from us.

One of the best things about being independent is that we can mix things up, back local businesses and work with people whose products and values we genuinely believe in.

And right now, we think that matters more than ever.

Running a small independent business is tough. Costs keep rising, margins keep getting tighter and there often feels like very little meaningful support for the small businesses actually keeping our local high streets and communities going.

Especially here in Royton.

For years, it has felt like the focus and investment has been directed towards trying to regenerate Oldham town centre, while places like Royton — areas that are already growing and where independent businesses are investing their own money and doing positive things — are expected to simply get on with it.

We see plenty written about Oldham being “on the rise”, but from where we’re standing, a huge part of any rise we’re seeing is being driven by ordinary people and independent businesses taking risks with their own money.

Opening venues. Improving premises. Creating jobs. Bringing new ideas to the area. Giving people reasons to stay local.

While people argue with each other in council chambers about who is responsible for what, small businesses still have to open the doors the next morning and make it work. That brings us nicely back to our news…

Tyler makes his Trapdoor debut from 9pm. He comes very highly recommended, so we can’t wait to get him on our stage! 🎶

We’re bringing a little bit of country to the TD with the amazing Niall Barnes. Something a little different for us and one we’re really looking forward to! 🤠🎸

Sunday morning honesty post. 🖤

Yesterday morning, sat with a brew questioning whether The TD was actually a good idea 💡

After Friday’s disappointment at the Business Awards for the second year running, combined with a few quieter weekends, you naturally start pondering what you’re doing wrong.

Do we concentrate more on private hire? Are people just not going out as much?

You start overthinking everything.

But speaking to friends who own bars and restaurants — some far bigger and more established than us it seems we’re all in the same boat.

The message was pretty much the same from everyone:

“September is always a crap month ‘😂

People are getting back from summer holidays, kids are back at school, routines start again and everyone seems to have one eye on Christmas.

So you tell yourself to stop overthinking it and keep doing what you’re doing.

Then we opened our doors last night……. And WOW. 🖤

One in, one out all night.

Faces we haven’t seen for a while. People who’d travelled to come and watch the amazing Beyond the Vale. A room full of grown ups, good manners, good people and exactly the kind of atmosphere we created The Trapdoor for.

And suddenly, all that overthinking from a few hours earlier disappears.

Big Thankyou to Karen, Laura and Zarah for keeping the drinks flowing x

This industry is absolutely mental.

You can go from questioning everything in the morning to standing there at 2am thinking:

“Wow. What a night. Can’t wait to do it all again next week.”

Last night was the boost we needed and a reminder of exactly why we had this mental idea in the first place.

Then add in the amount of lovely private messages we’ve received this weekend following the Business Awards, along with all the positive comments from people walking through our doors…

It genuinely means the world to us
To everyone who came last night, everyone who messaged us, everyone who recommended us to somebody and everyone who keeps choosing to spend their nights at our little place…

You’ve given us the boost we needed this weekend. 🖤

ANOTHER NIGHT ADDED! ✨

After another SOLD-OUT amazing evening last week, we honestly can’t keep up with the demand for these nights!

These are powerful, intense evenings, and it’s amazing to see everyone in the room being so respectful and intrigued.

Our next date wasn’t supposed to be until November, but with so many people asking when SAM is back, we’ve managed to squeeze in another evening in just a few weeks. 🙌

Tonight, The Trapdoor is swapping the bar for the ballroom as we head to the Oldham Business Awards in full Gatsby style 🏆

We’re not getting carried away with our chances… but in true TD style, win or lose, we’ll have a booze! 🍻

Before the awards even begin, we’re proud to be sharing the evening with so many long-standing local businesses — the kind that have kept the wheels turning through all the changes our town has seen over the years. And once you start looking at the names around the room, you realise just how special this night really is. ❤️

Zutti is one name we all know and love and has been trading in our town for an incredible 46 years. If anyone deserves some recognition, it’s businesses like these that have stood the test of time and remained part of the fabric of Oldham. 👏

We’re also looking forward to spending the evening on the Dr Kershaw’s Hospice table. The work these guys do for local people and families is incredible, and if anyone deserves to take home an award tonight, they certainly do. ❤️

As for our chances…

Looking back through the history of the awards, we can’t seem to find the name of a single pub or bar amongst the previous winners so whatever happens we’re proud just to be there amongst some brilliant Oldham businesses.

Can the TD claim a trophy for the hospitality sector?
