The goal of Miserable Bastards was to recreate the old club vibes of 80s/early 90s London back when I was young.
DJs would play a few crossover tracks in with the deep cuts and would mix up the genres a bit too. A particular favourite spot was Kitcat Club where you’d be listening to Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus one minute and then they’d throw you for a loop by popping in Bananarama or Berlin.
Every few years there would be a predominantly popular style in the clubs from New Romantic to goth to indie to acid house and Belgian new beat. It was a mental decade.
It’s sometimes hard to pull off as there is so much music to play when you are trying to offer a great cross section. But, with Jean and John with me it’s become a fun night of great dance tracks (with mostly miserable you lyrical content) from all sorts of genres and decades.
Next Miserable Bastards is April 11th. Young and old are welcome!!
Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Saint Etienne. This was the band's first single and is a cover of a Neil Young track.
