Inspired by Detroit's mid-20th century cocktail heyday, the Buhl Bar draws on the traditions of its storied predecessor, which closed in 1994, as well as such other famed after-work haunts as the Money Tree, the Bull Market, the King's Table and the Brass Rail. Not a precious "classic cocktail bar", the Buhl is the true source material on which these latter-day pretenders are based. Honoring the g

reat American business tradition of the happy hour, the Buhl opens every working day just in time for that last "conference call I gotta take from the road" and just long enough to be that "ridiculous tie-up on the freeway, dear". Ease out of the florescent din of the office melee into a genteel corner of the metropolis where the lights are low, the music is soft and the bartender knows your drink before you do. As one recent review aptly put it, the Buhl Bar represents "old-school elegance hearkening back to the days when Detroit truly was the Paris of the Midwest. You don’t have to get all dolled up in a suit or dress, but you'll want to."
