Antiguo 26 Alta Cocteleria is managed and directed by the family-owned Rivero y Compañia. Originally founded in 1902 by Angel Rivero Mendez, Rivero y Compañia has been re-branded for the 21st century, launching their first craft cocktail concept, Antiguo 26 in Old San Juan, with aim of resurrecting the forgotten era where soda-fountains were ubiquitous, mixing homemade syrups with soda on-tap and creating original concoctions that are still consumed today.
What makes Antiguo 26 unique is its location within a historical and iconic building where once operated a popular soda factory named Polo Norte Fabrica de Sodas, founded during an era of shift of colonial powers in Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War of 1898. Polo Norte was also widely recognized for the first registration of a premium carbonated soda by the brand name of ‘Kola Champagne’. Antiguo 26 still flaunts the original, awe-inspiring facade from over a century ago.
A centuries worth of history has brought us to where we are today, launching a unique concept of ‘on-tap’ (or draft) and bottled cocktails in a vintage soda fountain setting that will be distinct to anything that has ever been established in Puerto Rico, imparting a sense of gastronomic authenticity and nostalgia. Through our commitment to the finest product, exceptional experiences and an endless focus on attention to detail at every level, we aim to pioneer the rebirth of classic sodas and carbonated beverages.
