Friday night Cirque Sensuel at The Junction felt, for me, a lot like coming home.
I worked for The PumpJack for 9 years, and during that time was part of the team that worked on the the opening of the place that was first known as “The Majestic.” It was an amazingly rewarding albeit stressful time. It was also the first time I got myself sober, with a lot of support and help from the ownership and coworkers. Getting to return there, at their request, was an amazing feeling in itself.
Getting to throw what would turn out to be one kick ass party, a party I had literally dreamed of throwing for better than a decade, was the icing on the proverbial cake with a couple of acrobats hidden inside ready to spring out!
So the following people deserve a HUGE thank you:
Steve & Vince, owners of The Junction and The PumpJack, for believing in me, and inviting me back into the incredible Davie Street family they’ve created, even if just to visit now and again;
Adam, the GM of the two bars, who was helpful throughout the process, and who whenever I presented him with a big or small option chose the BIG one;
Byron, Manager at The Junction, and all of his helpful staff, who couldn’t have afforded me a warmer welcome or more help on Friday night;
DJ Del Stamp – the moment I got asked to do this night, the first request I made was for Del to DJ it, and I certainly feel lucky that he could;
Ira Rotenberg, of Vancouver Positive Body Image Photography, who once again offered his time and expertise to photograph an event I was part of in amazing style, and with his apparently effortless grace;
All of the performers who came out and delivered one hell of a show, that I saw being talked about across social media yesterday – Vivianne Oblivion, Vixen Von Flex, and Victoria Drive, you made my dreams and vague instructions an incredible reality;
EVERYONE who made it out to be part of this incredible launch party.
Perhaps most of all I need to thank Scott Peters. Perhaps no one in my life outside of blood family has been as amazingly supportive of me in my endeavours in life. Scott is now my partner in my latest events venture, Quake Productions. While he couldn’t be with us on Friday night (damn the film industry and it’s demanding schedules!) the night itself could NEVER have happened without him. Thank you so much.
