PB&J: Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz
presents SolomonHicks
Please share! The third annual Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz Juneteenth event is presenting the phenomenal Solomon Hicks in concert on Friday, June 19th. The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir will open the concert along with the young poet Elijah Hendrix
Solomon Hicks is of the brightest young talents in today’s blues scene and brings an exciting mix of blues, soul, funk, jazz, and rock and roll. He is known for his impeccable guitar playing, soulful vocals, and commanding stage presence. Hailing from Harlem, he has shared the stage with legends including Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, George Thorogood, and Joe Bonamassa while building a sound and reputation all his own.
The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir is a community/college choir that has gotten national acclaim and was established in 1990 to celebrate gospel songs about social injustice. They promote Unity through Song and Harmony through People. The young poet Elijah Hendrix will present a special Juneteenth poem, and his last contribution was recognized by the governor of New York. The North Country Underground Railroad Museum will give a presentation.
This special Juneteenth celebration is presented in conjunction with the Colors of Freedom Committee, the North Country Underground Railroad Museum, John Brown Lives!, the Clinton County Historical Association, SUNY Plattsburgh, Paul Smith’s College, and the Plattsburgh Public Library. Together, the event celebrates freedom, culture, community, and the deep roots of Black American music through a memorable night of soulful gospel and live blues.
Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz will once again transform Retro Live into a true live-music club atmosphere, with a dance floor, high-top seating, and an intimate concert setting built for a great night of music and connection.
