Macho City

Macho City Detroit-based queer dance party est. 2008 Macho City is a dance party created in 2008 by Mike Trombley and Ron Morelli in Philadelphia, PA.

Macho City (and Mike) soon relocated to Detroit where Scott Zacharias was added to the resident roster. The plan was to create a unique party that harked back to the heady days of legendary clubs like The Music Box (Chicago) and Paradise Garage (NYC), while always looking toward the future. This formula proved successful and led to capacity crowds at Macho City’s headquarters, the R&R Saloon. Mike

and Scott, with their arsenal of dance (un)classics, began to attract a keen mix of disco heads, art students, club kids and leather daddies alike. Along the way, adding the talents of Chuck Hampton (Gay Marvine) and Jeffrey Sfire as resident DJs. Macho City provides a space where clubbers from all walks of life feel welcome. The focus remains on the music and its unifying power. Over the past sixteen years, Macho City has been host to some amazing international DJ talent. Past guests have included Beppe Loda (Typhoon/Italy), Legowelt (Netherlands/Clone, Creme), Black Devil Disco Club (France/Rephlex Records), Honcho (Aaron Clark & Clark Price / Pittsburgh), Massimiliano Pagliera (Ostgut Ton), Nancy Fortune (France/Clone Records), BMG (Ectomorph/IT), Ron Morelli (NYC/L.I.E.S.), Azari & III (Toronto/Permanent Vacation) and Runaway (NYC/DFA). Macho City has cemented its reputation as an inimitable underground party in Detroit. We’re fortunate to celebrate fourteen years and look forward to many more. Join us each month to tap the aural traditions and tough love of Detroit's own seedy back alleys. SOME OF OUR PAST GUESTS:

Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who made the Big Fun debut such a delight. We were honestly blown away by the response—y’all went above and beyond anything we could have hoped for.

Attached are some pics and videos from the party—proof that we didn’t just imagine the magic of it all.

Thanks to your support, Big Fun is officially becoming a regular thing! We’ll be throwing parties every other month, with our next one happening on Saturday, June 7th as a Detroit Pride afterparty 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️.

Huge love to Julian and Roula for believing in the vision and helping make this party a reality. And a big shoutout to the staff at UFO BAR for being so kind, supportive, and just generally rad.

It truly feels like the next chapter of Macho City has begun—and we couldn’t ask for a better venue or a better crowd.

We’re super excited for a BIG FUN summer 💗.

The plan is to keep creating spaces where we can come together, celebrate, and find joy—even in the midst of uncertainty. Now, more than ever, we need those moments. That's why I'm so excited to reunite with my Macho City alum, Scott Zacharias, for a night dedicated to classic '90s house. This music is about community, liberation, and resilience, especially for marginalized groups, and with everything happening, the timing couldn't feel more right. UFO BAR—a space that truly understands and supports this vision—will be our home for the night, giving q***r folks and allies a place to breathe, dance, and reconnect. Macho City has always been something special, something that just clicked, and having Scott back in the mix makes this reunion feel even more meaningful. We’re calling the party BIG FUN, after the Inner City classic—a name that feels especially fitting because we could all use some right about now. Our debut party is next Saturday, April 5th at UFO, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. Remember, joy is a form of resistance. More details below ⬇️♥️.

Our Story

Ten years in, Macho City has earned its place in the Detroit q***r underground scene, due in large part to its devotion and celebration of all things Disco. Created by Mike Trombley and Ron Morelli in Philadelphia, Macho City (and Mike) soon relocated to Detroit where Scott Zacharias was added to the resident roster. The plan was to create a unique party that harked back to the heady days of legendary clubs like The Music Box (Chicago) and Paradise Garage (NYC), while always looking toward the future. This formula proved successful and led to capacity crowds at Macho City’s headquarters, the R&R Saloon. Mike and Scott, with their arsenal of dance (un)classics, began to attract a keen mix of disco heads, art students, club kids and leather daddies alike. Along the way, adding the talents of Chuck Hampton (Gay Marvine) and now Jeffrey Sfire as resident DJs. Macho City provides a space where clubbers from all walks of life feel welcome. The focus remains on the music and its unifying power. Over the past ten years, Macho City has been fortunate enough to host some of the best international DJ talent. Past guests have included Massimiliano Pagliera (Ostgut Ton), Beppe Loda (Typhoon/Italy), Legowelt (Netherlands/Clone, Creme), Nancy Fortune (France/Clone Records), Black Devil Disco Club (France/Rephlex Records), BMG (Ectomorph/IT), Ron Morelli (NYC/L.I.E.S.), Azari & III (Toronto/Permanent Vacation) and Runaway (NYC/DFA). Macho City has cemented its reputation as an inimitable underground party in Detroit. We’re proud to celebrate ten years and look forward to many more.
