Beneath the checkered floors and the red glow, there’s a building older than almost anything else on Broadway.

In 1908, two Hungarian immigrant brothers, Coleman and John Jonas, started a taxidermy business in Denver. By 1923 the family had expanded and moved into 1037 Broadway — the building we know today as the home of Milk and Bar Standard. Back then it wasn’t a club. It was a fur house and a taxidermy empire: the first floor a fur salon, the second floor manufacturing, the third floor a studio for modeling animals. The Jonas Brothers built museum-grade dioramas and hunting trophies — some of which still stand in the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

The family ran the building for roughly fifty years before clearing out in the early 1970s. The bones stayed. The work, the craft, the manufacturing sunk into the walls — and decades later it became something else entirely.

Now you find us the same way the regulars always have: down the alley off Broadway, into the lower floors of the old Jonas Bros. Furs building. A rabbit hole of rooms — the Clockwork Orange room with its checkered walls, the Jazz “Dark” room, the Red Room — polished off with a rooftop over the city.

Same building. Different kind of trophy now.

📍 1037 Broadway. The entrance is in the alley. It always has been. “Like Clockwork” set to be released in early August!!
