Aromas and notes of unripe blackberry, plum, and a smokiness that reminded us of a fruity BBQ sauce. Coming in at only 8% and with the slight bubbly-ness this wine was crushable. And we crushed it. All of it.

Paired with Tostones & Pupusas from — some of our favorite carry-out in Chattanooga!

So I (Josiah) was instructed to write a post about the wines in these photos.

(Which are delicious Beaujolais from Burgundy, and you should buy them if you can find them)

But in truth, I’d prefer to shout out this beautiful woman.

She is the patient & strong mother of two; the mastermind behind this brand; intuitively creative in the kitchen; her smile and laugh are infectious; and when she has a little wine she’s adorable 😍

The Sunday afternoon wine.

Paired with pizza.

Beryna is a Granacha and Monastrell blend (Spanish for Grenache and Mourvèdre).

A delightful tart and full red fruit palate; chewy pop to finish.

Happy New Year from our family to yours.

We toasted in the New Year over two bottles of superb Champagne (Michel Turgy and Philipponnat) and one French Sparking (Kraemer). We are definitely enjoying the perks of Josiah working in a wine shop 😋🥂.

Both Champagne and Cava are unique in their requirement that the wine must rest on the lees (grape & yeast sediment) for at least 18 months, which can give them a slight toasted brioche on the front palate, and then undergo another secondary fermentation in the bottle, which provides the bubbles that we love so much. The racy, lemon spine of the Philipponnat was hard to beat. Also did you know that Champagne is typical a combination of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier grapes? Unless it says Blanc de Blancs (like the Turgy) then it is just Chardonnay.

Looking forward to bringing Chattanooga some more Friar Tuck’s in 2021.

Cheers! 🥂
