Metro-Detroit based DJ Graphite is co-founder and one-third of the industrial DJ collective Defiled Industrial, alongside Remnant and Wraith—a trio dedicated to pushing darker electronic music deeper from the underground. Since emerging in 2008, Graphite has become a recognized presence within the Detroit industrial and goth scene, known for disciplined mixing, immersive atmosphere, and a relentless dedication to dark electronic music and dancefloor control. As a resident DJ at Ann Arbor’s Necto nightclub from 2018–2021, he helped solidify the long-running Factory night as a cornerstone of Michigan’s industrial, EBM, and dark alternative community.

A highly technical and intuitive selector, Graphite constructs layered sets that fuse EBM, industrial, dark electro, aggrotech, synthpop, and harsh noise into seamless, tension-driven transmissions. His mixing style emphasizes pacing, rhythmic continuity, and percussive impact—moving from brooding synth passages and minimal grooves into dense body rhythms, distorted textures, and relentless mechanical aggression. Every transition is carefully engineered to build momentum and atmosphere, creating immersive sets that blur the line between club experience and ritualistic sound design.

Beyond the booth, Graphite extends his aesthetic through his ongoing Mixcloud
series, Transmission: Fear—an immersive broadcast of signal decay, mechanical rhythm, sweat, and strobe-lit dread. Free of trends, nostalgia, or empty hype, the series focuses on atmosphere, tension, and the darker architecture of underground electronic music.

Remnant is an industrial DJ, VJ, promoter, and the co-founder of Defiled Industrial, established in 2017 as a platform dedicated to pushing darker and more aggressive forms of underground electronic music. With years of experience behind the decks and behind the scenes, Remnant has become a consistent force within the Ann Arbor and Detroit industrial community.

From 2016 through 2025, Remnant served as resident DJ and VJ for the long-running Factory night at Ann Arbor’s Necto nightclub, where he became known for delivering punishing weekly sets alongside retina-searing visuals on the main floor. Week after week, he helped shape Factory into a destination for industrial, EBM, aggrotech, and dark electronic music, creating an atmosphere built on overwhelming sound, immersive visuals, and relentless dancefloor energy.

Beyond his residency work, Remnant has brought his signature sound to countless guest appearances throughout the Midwest and beyond, including recent performances such as Blade Rave, as well as appearances in Windsor, Detroit, Bowling Green, Chicago, and other underground events across the region. Whether performing in clubs, warehouses, festivals, or special events, he consistently delivers high-intensity sets engineered for maximum impact.

As a DJ, Remnant is particularly known for his focus on aggrotech, terror EBM, harsh industrial, and hard electronic dance music. His sets combine rapid-fire 4/4 percussion, crushing basslines, distorted vocals, abrasive noise textures, dystopian atmospheres, and dense synthetic sound design into seamless, high-pressure sonic assaults. A well-known presence within the Detroit and Ann Arbor underground scene, Wraith has delivered standout sets at concerts for acts such as Funker Vogt, appearances at festivals including Skull, and numerous nights at Ann Arbor’s Necto Factory events. Though her appearances behind the decks are relatively rare, each set has become a must-see experience—carefully crafted reflections of her passion for dark music culture, her distinct personality, and her instinct for controlling energy on the dancefloor.

Known for his relentless schedule, eclectic taste, and boundless energy, Parallax has built a reputation as a DJ who can adapt to virtually any crowd while still maintaining a distinct identity rooted in underground electronic music culture.

What truly sets Parallax apart is the sheer range and versatility of his selections. Effortlessly crossing genre boundaries, his sets move through EBM, industrial, darkwave, synthpunk, electro-industrial, and goth club sounds before diving headfirst into jungle, drum & bass, footwork, breaks, electro, house, and techno. John Courte, now performing under the name DJ Engine, holds near-legendary status within the Ann Arbor and Detroit underground as one of the most respected club DJs to emerge from the region’s alternative music explosion of the 1980s and 1990s. Long before industrial and dark electronic music became widely recognized in American club culture, Courte was already helping shape dancefloors and musical tastes through adventurous programming, technical skill, and an instinctive ability to discover groundbreaking music before it reached a broader audience.

During the late 1980s, he became widely known as DJ Cyberpunk while presiding over the Nectarine Ballroom—better known today as Necto—in Ann Arbor. At a time when underground electronic music was still developing its identity, his nights became essential destinations for thousands of clubgoers seeking sounds outside the mainstream. Week after week, he introduced audiences to New Wave, EBM, Industrial, New Beat, Italo Disco, synth-driven underground dance music, and countless artists that would later achieve cult and legendary status within alternative music circles. Possessing a remarkably sharp ear for emerging talent, Courte consistently championed artists and records long before they became staples of the scene, helping shape the musical direction of an entire generation of Midwest club culture.

Eventually, Los Angeles called, leading Courte toward a creative career outside the Midwest. Despite the move, he never lost touch with underground electronic music or the scenes that helped define his early legacy. He continued following developments in industrial, synth, darkwave, and electronic dance music while maintaining a deep connection to the evolving sounds coming out of Detroit and Ann Arbor.

In 2020, Courte returned to the Ann Arbor area, bringing with him decades of experience and a renewed passion for performing. Re-emerging under the moniker DJ Engine, he began making special guest appearances once again at Necto’s long-running Factory nights—an unexpected but celebrated return for many longtime members of the scene. Those appearances quickly led to additional bookings across Metro Detroit, including performances at the Skull festival and numerous underground club events, where both longtime fans and newer generations of dancers were able to experience his distinctive style firsthand.

With nearly four decades of experience behind the decks, DJ Engine represents a rare bridge between multiple eras of underground DJ culture. Having evolved from vinyl-only mixing to modern digital controllers and hybrid setups, he remains technically sharp and effortlessly adaptable, capable of seamless beatmatching and genre-spanning programming that feels both timeless and current. His sets balance foundational electronic classics with contemporary synth-driven releases, dark dancefloor anthems, and emerging underground artists, proving that his musical instincts remain as sharp today as they were decades ago.

More than simply a veteran DJ, DJ Engine embodies the enduring spirit of underground
electronic music culture itself—constantly evolving, forever curious, and driven by an authentic passion for sound and discovery. If music truly keeps people young, Engine stands as living proof.
