Old St Records promises live music every day it's open, with an eclectic programme of soul, funk, jazz and rock to classic pop. Having won over the masses south of the river with their record store-inspired venues, Venn St. Records and Northcote Records, the vibe continues East side with kick-ass cocktails and authentic Italian thin-crust pizza served up with a variety of fresh toppings to energise you for the night ahead on the dance-floor.

That’s what you’ll hear if you play Pink Floyd’s “Empty Spaces” backwards. And believe it or not, hiding messages in music has quite the history.

It’s called backmasking, a technique The Beatles helped popularise in the 60s. But by the 80s, things had taken a darker turn, with rumours of satanic messages in rock records sparking a full-blown moral panic. Some people even started destroying their vinyl.

From Led Zeppelin’s infamous backwards controversy to the strange sounds hidden in Radiohead and Pink Floyd, we’ve rounded up five tracks that’ll make you listen twice. Some messages were intentional, while others might just be our ears playing tricks on us. Give them a listen and let us know which one creeps you out the most!
