Sunday West Soundsystem

Sunday West Soundsystem The Sunday West Soundsystem is West London's premier House & Jungle party promotion. We are known fo

Sunday West was born in the late noughties during the boom period of East London day time and early morning underground after parties. Founder Rufus, West London born and bred, took it upon himself to ensure the West side party starters had their very own shindig in the manor. The event started off life as an all day Sunday party in the Summer, at the Ravenous Café on Portobello Road, with its sec

luded garden and yurt covered Soundsystem. After one summer, this quickly outgrew itself, and the event and its trusted residents held further events at Blag Club, Woody’s before staging their first large scale events at Subtrerrania and the canal side Junction Arms. In 2012 the first Carnival event was held at The Garden Bar & Grill in Latymer Road, with its epic outdoor space. Over a four year period this event became the number one house music destination at Notting Hill Carnival, with world class dj bookings and tickets regularly selling out months in advance. With great sadness, the venue was aligned with a new property development, thus ending the ability to stage any events there. Whilst coveting our new venue, Loft Studios, Sunday West went into hibernation, and well, we all know what happened next. Post pandemic and Sunday West is back with a statement of intent, more mature and ambitious than ever before. Today....

West London’s favorite underground promotion Sunday West Soundsystem returns to the Notting Hill Carnival after a 6-year hiatus. Following sell out day / night events from 2011 to 2016 we have finally managed to secure the venue we have coveted all these years, the immense Loft Studios in Scrubs Lane. We have teamed up with 2 exciting London based brands, Brixton Brewery and Market Row rum, to give you a carnival party experience like never before. From 4pm onwards, the outdoor courtyard Soundsystem, with cover, will kick off proceedings with a 360-music policy, where we will also be celebrating a very special collaboration launch. Whilst the courtyard will be in full swing, the main room will activate from 8pm, with a stellar line up of iconic artists playing the best in underground house music seeing us through until 3am. The central bar area will be situated on the floor above, relieving the revelers of congestion throughout the space. In a nutshell, this will be the biggest and best Carnival Sunday daytime and afterparty event in the weekends calendar. Those who have partied with us before, know full well and can account for the excellent positive vibes and energy that is synonymous with our events.

In 2024, Matt Jam Lamont absolutely shelled the main room at our Producers Carnival dance.

This year... we’ve handed him the keys to the courtyard. It’s wild out there….

For Spirit of ‘96, Matt takes the headline outdoor set, digging deep into the records that defined one of the greatest years in UK garage. Think Tuff Jam, US garage, soulful vocals, champagne moments and nothing but timeless classics.

No gimmicks. No edits. Just the soundtrack that shaped a generation. Written by the man himself.

If you know, you know. If you don’t know, come find out why!

“Before there were MCs, there were The Ragga Twins.”
——
The Spirit of ’96 Carnival after-party by sundaywestsoundsystem wouldn’t be complete without the voices that helped define it. This carousel shows their rich history and versatility.

The Ragga Twins Flintz Steve Davidson simply MCs on jungle records. They were pioneers who bridged reggae, dancehall, hip hop, rave and jungle, bringing Caribbean sound system culture into the heart of British electronic music. Long before MC culture became the norm, Deman Rockers and Flinty Badman were setting the standard.

From the early days of Shut Up and Dance through to countless anthems, they’ve soundtracked generations of ravers while never losing sight of their roots. Their energy, style and unmistakable delivery helped shape a uniquely British sound built on Jamaican heritage and London’s multicultural streets.

As we celebrate 60 years of Notting Hill Carnival and 30 years since 1996, it feels only right that The Ragga Twins take centre stage. Carnival has always been about community, resistance, creativity and sound systems. The Ragga Twins embody every one of those values.

As they famously said… “Reggae Owes Me Money.”

Personally, To Deserve You by MK was THE anthem of 1996 in the garage dance. A true connoisseur’s riddim. It’s definitely getting rinsed out by one of our dj’s at the Spirit of 96 Notting Hill Carnival after-party.
