Bar a Bar is a 200-capacity basement on Stoke Newington Road, powered by a heavyweight Martin Audio sound system and built around the kind of intimacy that’s becoming harder to find in London nightlife.

A long-standing East London staple, our space blends stripped-back interiors and a serious sound system with the raw feeling of old-school underground club culture- the kind centred around connection on the dancefloor and losing yourself in the music. With exposed ceilings, immersive lighting, a bespoke hand-painted DJ booth, and cosy seating tucked around the space, the basement manages to feel both high-energy and intimate all at once.

We’re always building our roster of events, and are open to all enquiries- from club night takeovers and private parties to art showcases, dance classes, DJ workshops, screenings, and community-led events. The space is flexible and customisable to whatever you’re cooking up. Here are some of the highlights:

SOUND.
A full Martin Audio surround sound system wraps around the dancefloor, designed so you feel connected to the music wherever you are in the room. Deep lows, crisp highs, proper dancefloor pressure.

DECKS.
2x Pioneer CDJ-3000s. 2x Technic 1210MK turntables. 1x DJM-900NX mixer. The gold standard setup for both digital and vinyl selectors.

LIGHTING.
A newly updated lighting rig built to completely transform the room- strobes, lasers, fog machines, and immersive lighting that creates a proper underground atmosphere for dancers to get lost in.

SPACE.
A 200 person capacity dancefloor that keeps the energy close without feeling cramped. Blank walls allow for full freedom to customise the space however you want. An elevated sofa area at the back, perfect for those longer conversations that need to happen off the dancefloor without missing the music.

BAR.
A fully stocked bar run by a genuinely welcoming team that know how to keep the energy flowing from open to close.

This Friday at Bar a Bar, we’ve got a techno takeover with Zem2 ⛓️‍💥⛓️‍💥⛓️‍💥

Built around tight curation, collaborative energy, and a dancefloor that stays locked in from start to finish. Each edition of Zem2 focuses on artists who trust each other behind the decks and aren’t afraid to push the room a little further.

Opening the night is , setting the tone with a hypnotic and driving approach to techno. Her sets lean into deep, rolling rhythms and immersive pacing, gradually pulling the room into motion.

At the centre of the night, there’s b2b .fm . Luc’s career began in the American rave circuit before quickly gaining momentum in London, recently appearing at . Behind the decks with OllyK who has recently debuted in London’s Unfold, the set becomes a meeting point of styles- Luc’s raw, percussive techno roots blending with OllyK’s groove-led approach and electro influences. Expect a dynamic set that balances hypnotic tension with high-energy movement.

Closing the night are .x b2b , two favourites of the underground scene. SBBS, a resident at and and Taito, a resident of , bring a shared dancefloor sensibility that keeps the energy high deep into the final hours.

ZEM2 keeps things simple: strong artists, thoughtful pairings and serious techno played the way it should be: loud, immersive and built for the dancefloor.
