I’ve decided to make this a thing 🙌

One of the things I hear alot about journal club is “I’d love to come, but I’d be nervous about coming on my own”, and I totally get it.

Walking into a room when you don’t know anyone can feel like a BIG DEAL. So… why not bring someone with you.

From now on, when you book a place at The Sunday Journal Club, you can bring a friend who’s never been before, completely free.

Their first journal club is on me ✍️🥰

I’d much rather have another woman sitting around that table, getting what’s in her head onto paper and making time for herself.

If bringing your mate makes it that little bit easier to walk through the door? Even better.

We rarely close our speakeasy to the public during ordinary hours.
Crown Lane Cellar is a collection of intimate spaces — music room, alcoves, family room, parlour, bars and garden — and from time to time a celebration is large enough, or important enough, that the only right thing is exclusive use of the whole venue.
We keep those nights few. The Cellar is a home for a lot of people in Carlisle, and we know a closed door is felt. When we do it, it is to honour a life event for longstanding guests, families and businesses who have helped keep this place what it is.
This Friday and Saturday the whole house is privately hired for two special occasions.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes our regulars this week. We are open as usual tomorrow, Thursday, and again from Sunday.
When something significant comes up, you can make the Cellar yours — private hire enquiries through the website.

Thursdays are now Singles Night at Crown Lane Cellar.
Come unmatched. Come with one friend. Stay for a film in the parlour, or sit with the live background piano and a drink made around you. There is no ticket, no awkward cattle pen, and no upper age limit — if you are old enough for the Cellar, you are old enough for Thursday.
We opened bookings for our first hosted speed dating night on Wednesday 18 November and the response was immediate. So we are not waiting until November. From this week, Thursday is the night you can just turn up.
