Our word of the day is "MIMESIS". An Ancient Greek word which represents human action in Greek philosophy, it's the perfect description of Number 92 and our decision to start our Happy Hour this week.

We're tired/bored/frustrated/fed up with watching Braintree High Street slowly fade away, and we want to do something about it. We hope our Happy Hour offers will give you another reason to venture out and enjoy your town.

Times are tough. They're tough for individuals, families and, inevitably, businesses — particularly small, independent local businesses.

Talk to almost any business owner on Braintree High Street and you'll hear much the same thing. We need local people through our doors. It's what keeps independent businesses going and our High Street alive.

As a neighbourhood bar, there are only so many things we can do to encourage people out. But rather than sit around waiting for things to improve, we've decided to do something about it.

We're going big, because we don't want to go home.

And who's going to benefit? Well, hopefully all of us.

We're introducing our new 8, 7, 6, 5 HAPPY HOUR, every Friday and Saturday, from 9pm to 10pm.

ZERO WASTE & UNIQUE DRINKS

When Number 92 started we went “Buy Local” from the outset. If we’re investing in products (and as you provide our revenue technically you are investing too) then we wanted to support local businesses as far as possible, if the quality of product was there.

Over the last few years at the bar we’ve moved to making all of our own infused spirits and have loved it - it’s given us flexibility and the chance to be really creative.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve now moved to the next stage of this development. We are now making all of our own syrups and cordials and have incorporate a zero waste mantra into the mix as well. It’s a lot of work - cleaning, peeling, measuring, sterilising, infusing, filtering and bottling.

It means that all of our Signature Drinks are COMPLETELY UNIQUE, they are one-offs. Not many bars in the country can say that.

On top of that we’re targeting ZERO WASTE so nothing that can be used is thrown away. What does that mean for you as a customer? 2 main things:

1) Every drink we make you is unique.
2) Zero additives, weird flavourings, strange colourings or e-numbers in your drinks. We know everything that goes in them, which should, also, help you out the next morning ;-)

THIS WEEK’S £7.50 DRINKS SPECIAL AT NUMBER 92 - “RATHER PLEASANT’

We’ve been experimenting with creating our own cordials (AKA squash) at the bar over the last couple of weeks and have developed a beautiful Mango & Lemongrass one. So this week’s special is a long drink featuring Ess*x distilled vodka, our own cordial and a splash of lemonade. Bit of a vodka, lemonade and lime vibe.

Some would say it’s cordial, or even rather pleasant... Also, available as a soft drink (still or sparkling) for just £2.50 for the non-drinkers.

Here's an update on Mikey's work on the harvest at New Hall as he comes to an end of his third week there :-)

Very long story short - he's having a great time. He's been 'racking' (taking the juice off the grape solids), working and understanding yeasts, doing lots of cleaning and sterilising and is making his own batch - which is amazing.

£7.50 WEEKLY DRINKS SPECIAL AT NUMBER 92 - CHOCOLATE BANANA!

Josh got busy yesterday with a bottle of Jack Daniels and the end result is absolutely ridiculous.

Bottle of Jack, 4 banana skins, sugar and a hint of chocolate - it is simply WONDERFUL and only £7.50. We have one bottle, so once it's gone, it's gone.

When we set up this year’s Steinholding Competition we selected 2 causes to donate the entry fee to:

- Mark’s Rehabilitation (a local gent, who has had a major stroke)
- CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably - a su***de prevention charity)

As we had 53 entries we have pledged £132.50 to each of them.

WEEKLY £7.50 DRINKS SPECIAL AT NUMBER 92 - SAVAPO 2.0

A few moons ago we created a cracker of a drink called a Savapo - Josh has got inspired and created a second version.

Infused blanco tequila with smokey mezcal, lemongrass and some scotch bonnet for the fire power - this drink has got it all. Shaken with lime and agave before being served long with a dash of soda. It's a corker of a drink and only £7.50.

Mikey, Number 92’s Trainee Manager, has gone on secondment for 6 weeks to New Hall W**e Estate so he can do the full harvest, learn about w**e and help produce the 2026 vintage. He’s coming to the end of his first week and we’re so pleased at how he’s applying himself. He’s a credit to the bar.
