A behind-the-scenes swoop into our Spring menu cover design with Sean: Onomatopoeias. 🖌️⁠

This particular menu, Volume 64, also marks something special - our first return to print in over five years.⁠

Let the creative juices flow - from here on out, our seasonal Prescriptions will be paired with an original menu cover, specially designed by local artists.

🤔: Hey Sean! Tell us a bit about your day-to-day work.⁠
🙋: My day-to-day role is creative lead at a custom apparel company. Outside of my job I like to doodle, design, dream, and pretend to know how to draw.⁠

🤔: How do you normally 'begin' your designs?⁠
🙋: I don't know if I typically start the same way for every project, but I do know that I don't think too hard about it. I probably begin doodling ideas until something sticks. Start with your gut, then let your brain analyze and react.⁠

🤔: How do most of your creative ideas come to you?⁠
🙋: Having a set of restrictions. It sounds 'anti-creative' but it's the opposite. It forces me to solve problems in creative ways.⁠

🤔: Any fun notes specifically about this design for our Spring Prescriptions: Onomatopoeia menu?⁠
🙋: I tried to incorporate a visual element that somewhat represented each drink name. There were a few that proved to be difficult to visualize, which resulted in a reactionary brushstroke.⁠

🤔: It's late night, you're at Keefer. What drink is in your hand?⁠
🙋: Something stirred and boozy. Preferably a Martinez or a Martini. But honestly anything from their menu is going to be great. Can't go wrong at the Keefer Bar.⁠

FRANCH! The sound Spiderman made when hurled into an apple tree, smacking branches as he fell to the grass.⁠

Fruity apple eau de vie from Sweetwater Distilling is anchored by the earthy depth of mezcal and the grassy character of cachaça. Green notes from lotus leaf and fresh parsley are lifted with a splash of lime, while a nooch-salt rim ties everything together, balancing the brightness and earthiness with a subtle umami finish.⁠

To everyone who took time out of their day to support us - we thank you endlessly. ❤️ There's no shortage of unreal cocktail bars and restaurants in Vancouver, we wish we could shout out all our favs. ⁠

Appreciative of anyone who has ever recommended us as a spot for a first date, to celebrate a birthday, casually hang during happy hour, or even to enjoy a post-show nightcap.⁠

Say hello to the World Class Canada Bartender of the Year 2026... LUCAS! 🥁🍾

🤔) What did the moment feel like winning World Class Canada?
💁) That moment felt so unreal! I was overwhelmed with joy, shock, and an incredible sense of gratitude. Hearing my name announced followed by an eruption of cheers is something I’ll never forget. Having my friends, family, coworkers, and peers there to share it with me made the moment especially meaningful.

🤔) What inspired you to get into bartending?
💁) I’ve always been fascinated by food and flavour. When I discovered cocktails, I realized how creative bartending could be and became obsessed with the endless possibilities of what you can put in a glass.

I started making drinks at home for friends, and after studying music in college, I decided to pursue bartending professionally. I fell in love with the craft, the creativity, and the hospitality, and it quickly became a career path I was excited to follow.

🤔) What are 3 things you believe every bartender should be good at?
💁) First is hospitality. Even the best cocktail in the world falls flat if it’s served without warmth or care. Making people feel good and welcome is always the priority!
Next would be craftsmanship. A bartender should be able to create balanced, thoughtful drinks with consistency and attention to detail.
Third is passion and curiosity. The best bartenders never stop learning, experimenting, and finding inspiration. Having a genuine love for the craft is what keeps you growing!

🤔) Next up, competing on the world stage! Tell us what's running through your head.
💁) I’m feeling incredibly excited, grateful, and honestly a little overwhelmed in the best way possible.

Representing Canada on the world stage is a huge honour, especially knowing how much talent exists in this industry. Right now, I’m feeling motivated to learn, grow, and refine my style in preparation to compete alongside some of the best bartenders in the world.

It’ll be amazing to be part of something that celebrates hospitality and creativity at such a high level, and I want to make Canada proud and soak up every moment of the experience!

The tradition of renewal: spring flower-viewing, appreciating the P**F of petals as they open. 🌸⁠

Delicate yet striking, this martini-style sipper blends floral Roku Sakura gin with lover’s plum vermouth, silky salted rice gomme, and tangy plum vinegar giving it that little Gibson pop.⁠

A warm thank you! Last month you helped us raise $560 for our dear friend Jared’s GoFundMe and his ongoing recovery.⁠

This month, we're giving focus to something that affects so many, yet often goes unspoken. ⁠

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness month, and proceeds from our Fountain Shots will proudly benefit In Her Circle, 'a movement for postpartum mental health.'⁠

In Her Circle provides much-needed, low-barrier, immediate access to care and support to mothers navigating mental health challenges. ❤️⁠

With Mother's Day nearing next Sunday, there's no better time to check in with our fellow moms, to hold the space, and offer support where possible.⁠

No. 7 North America's 2026, and Best Bar in Canada - hold on while we catch our breath.⁠..⁠

This journey has been one we'll never forget. What began as a fun concept has evolved into something we still have to pinch ourselves over.⁠

Sending so much love to our incredible team who remind us to stay inspired, stay true, and stay playful. Their commitment to spirit tastings, cocktail creations, knowledge, and genuine hospitality is a large catalyst for why we're here today.⁠

To our regulars who make our nights brighter, the 'first-timers' who ignite fresh excitement in our room, and to the whole bar community for your ongoing support.⁠ We 🫶⁠ you.⁠
