We’re very excited and proud to share that Shelter Cocktail Bar has landed at #20 on Canada’s 50 Best Bars, which means a great deal to our team, and to a small room that’s always aimed to do things with a love, care, and intention.

A special moment as well for Ryan , who was awarded the Innovator Award built on Paulina’s discovery of implementing active aroma compounds into our cocktails. It’s an area we’ve been exploring and refining, shaping how we think about flavour, balance, and the way a drink is experienced from the first moment to the last.

A drink is one thing. Knowing why it works is another. Our monthly cocktail classes at Shelter Cocktail Bar are built around that idea; technique, flavour, and a bit of theory behind the glass. You’ll make a few drinks, ask questions, and leave with something more useful than just a good night out.

Tonight’s class is sold out, but May 11 still has a few spots. They also make a solid gift (gift cards available online), or can be booked privately for team events, birthdays, or the occasional well-planned bachelor party.

We’re back open tonight! After a few days away at 50 Best, the team is home and the room is open again at Shelter Cocktail Bar. A little wind in the city, a little party hangover in the building but otherwise exactly where we should be.

Harissa prawns are on: a quiet kind of heat, balanced with cured zucchini tzatziki and fresh herbs. It’s a great choice to snack on from while you decide on the second drink.

If you can make your way through the wind this weekend, we’ll take care of the rest. It’s good to be back behind the bar, we’ll see you soon.

Tonight is your final window at Shelter Cocktail Bar before we head to Vancouver for 50 Best . We’ll be closed all next week and back open Friday for regular service… likely a touch tired, still very precise.

The room is open, the cocktails are exactly where they should be, and the weather has decided to cooperate for once. Consider this your moment to get properly reacquainted.

SHELTER 75. Some cocktails carry their reputation with them. The French 75 is one of those, it’s bright, precise, and built to start (or extend) a night.

The Shelter 75 stays close to that structure, with a slight shift in tone. Dillon’s Dry Gin, fresh lemon, a measured touch of Blue Delta, and Fiol Prosecco to finish. Floral, citrus-forward, and clean, with a softness that rounds it out without losing its edge.

It’s an easy drink, but not a forgettable one. Balanced, consistent, and exactly the kind of thing you settle into for a second round without much discussion. Raise one with us this week before our team heads to Vancouver to celebrate 50 Best!

We’ve made the list again.

No. 98 on North America’s 50 Best Bars The World’s 50 Best Bars our second year in a row, moving up from No. 99. Last year felt like a moment. This year feels like something steadier. A reflection of the room, the team, and the many small details that shape each night. To be included once was unexpected. To be included twice suggests we might be onto something worth continuing.

For a small cocktail bar in Calgary, being part of this conversation is not lost on us. Thank you to everyone who’s walked through the door, taken a seat, and spent time with us. We’ll keep at it.

Come by for a drink and celebrate with us this week! A big congrats to our friends Missy’s and Proof Cocktail Bar for their achievements as well!

In an effort to better serve our guests (and our floors), we’re proud to announce a small but meaningful update at Shelter. Effective today, all glassware has been replaced with sippy cups.

We’ve noticed a slight increase in enthusiastic cocktail consumption lately, and rather than fight it, we’ve decided to support it. Less spillage, fewer broken glasses, and a more secure drinking experience for all involved. Rest assured, garnishes will remain exactly as intended. If anything, they now have a more stable platform to shine from.

We’ll be piloting our new sippy program for today only, but early feedback suggests it’s both practical and deeply humbling. Join us and sip responsibly. Or at least… more securely.

MUHAMMARA & PATRÓN. We took a margarita and let it wander a little. Built on Patrón Reposado, this one leans warm and savoury—roasted red pepper, walnut, a touch of fruit, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. It opens bright with lime, then settles into something deeper, slightly smoky, and quietly spiced.

It’s familiar at first sip, then not quite. In a good way. Finished with a muhammara tajín rim for a little extra intrigue. (Contains nuts—worth noting, and worth it.) Now pouring at Shelter.

WHO THE F*CK IS POLINA. We listen and we don’t judge. After two years of questions, requests, and the occasional demand… she’s back.

Flor de Caña 12yr and pineapple rum at the base, layered with banana, cherry, house falernum, lime and grapefruit, finished with tiki bitters. Tart, fruity, a little sweet, bright up front, with just enough depth to keep you going back for another sip.

The cult favourite that started it all, and somehow still the most asked-about drink on the menu.

Who is she? Still unclear.
Why is she back? You asked.
Should you order it? Very clear.
