DURBAN - The time is right for the development of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, according to the developer involved in the R1 billion Renishaw Hills project taking shape near Scottburgh.
And potential investors agree with him, eyeing up the area for a range of their own developments.
Being the same distance from central Durban as boom town Ballito on the North Coast, the South Coast also presents similar opportunities, but without the congestion, is quieter and offers “more reasonable” prices, says Phil Barker the managing director of Renishaw Hills.
Renishaw Hills is a lifestyle development for the over-fifties, in the Mpambanyoni Conservation Development. The first owners will move in this month.
It is the first investment in the area for about 40 years, and having invested heavily in the area, Renishaw Property Developments believe it could become the catalyst for the awakening of the South Coast.
The development company is a subsidiary of the Crookes Brothers group.
Renishaw Hills sits on 28 hectares (ha), and while the first phase will see 60 homes going up, a total of 500 will be built over the next nine years.
Surrounded by pristine coastal forest and ocean views, they will cater for 750 people.
But with a total of 266ha available, further projects are on the cards over the next 20 years.
This was earmarked for mixed-used residential, commercial, industrial, educational and medical developments, Barker said.
“We already have hospital groups interested as well as investors interested in commercial and retail developments, including a mall,” Barker added.
