Uppercut UPPERCUT is a musical collective and platform. We focus on presenting high quality music events to a more discerning party goer. The return of the DJ.

UPPERCUT delves deep into genres like Hip-hop, Future Beats, Bass, Breaks, Funk, Soul, Dub, and other music. We also host a bi-monthly radio show, every second Friday 12-2pm, on http://www.assemblyradio.com

UPPERCUT hosts a weekly Friday Night event at the Waiting Room on Long Street playing a range of choice beats. The DJs for each show are selected carefully to ensure that the music is a true r

eflection of the genre, and can be appreciated by diehard and casual fans alike. Besides our regular nights, every month we throw a few of the following UPPERCUT Special Edition parties:

1. GOLDEN ERA Hip Hop

A Hip-hop Golden era party that celebrates the finest sounds from the nineties, EVERY LAST FRIDAY of the month.. The night is about bringing back the kind of old school hip-hop that we love to hear and that has been the soundtrack to our lives for almost two decades, and celebrating the act of DJing as the true art form that it is. If you feel love for real hip hop like we do, UPPERCUT GOLDEN ERA is your party.

2. BUTTON BASHERS Beat Battle

A Producer Beat Battle created to scope out South Africa's most talented beat makers and DJs and to build a community in a space where ideas and skills are nourished and honed. A sample track is selected and handed out to 5 producers who have one week to flip/rework the track and to play their version at the event. A winner will be decided on the night. DJs play the latest in forward thinking Hip Hop, Glitch and Future Beats.

3. DUBBHISM

In collaboration with the Dark Room Crew. The home of deep meditative bass, paying tribute to and celebrating the deeper end of the spectrum, inspired by the Jamaican foundational roots of big sound culture. The music focuses on music from Dub to Deep Dubstep.

4. 3 MUST GET FUNKED

Our classic and old school FUNK event. Including Boogie, Soul and Afrobeat. The foundation of hip-hop and all break-beat culture. The home of real organic music and sweaty skins.

5. FUTURE THUG

In Collaboration with Dank & Disco. Future beats, Glitch-Hop and that head nodding tomthuggery. UPPERCUT is EVERY FRIDAY at the WAITING ROOM (above Royale Eatery), 273 Long Street, Cape Town. UPPERCUT GOLDEN ERA is on the LAST Friday of every month. Contact: [email protected]
