The tiki concept, rum-infused tropical drinks served in a beach-like setting, has been around since the 1930s when Donn Beach (Ernest Gannt) opened his tiki bar, Don the Beachcomber, and has been in and out of the spotlight since. With a major boom in the 90s, we saw larger, shareable tropical drinks, like the iconic scorpion bowls, and now tiki is on the rise yet again, and this time, even including spirits beyond rum….

Tiki culture dates back to the 1930s and is now making a comeback with large, shareable formats that go beyond rum-only recipes, all served in fun, tropical settings.

One Address, Three Must-Have Experiences in Đà Nẵng

There are plenty of places in Đà Nẵng where you can drink Vietnamese coffee, plenty of tailors who will make you a dress or a shirt. And there are certainly plenty of bars where you can have a cocktail. But there is only one place in the city where you can do all three in the same century-old building.

At 162a Nguyễn Chí Thanh, in the heart of Hải Châu, three very different businesses and experiences occupy the same historic house: Càphê Một Đời, a daytime café devoted to Vietnamese coffee and the pleasures of lingering; Lua Custom Tailoring, a bespoke atelier creating individually made clothing; and, after dark, MAKARA Bar, an immersive Vietnamese tiki speakeasy devoted to rum, tropical cocktails and a deeply atmospheric interpretation of Vietnamese culture. The building is just a few blocks from two of Đà Nẵng’s most important landmarks, Han Market and Dragon Bridge, making it an easy stop for visitors exploring the center of the city….

We’re delighted to announce that Càphê Một Đời is now open.

In a city filled with cafés, we wanted to create something different: a place where comfort matters as much as coffee. Spread across two floors and four intimate rooms, Càphê Một Đời offers lounge seating, curved booths, handcrafted bamboo and rattan interiors, and countless quiet corners designed for conversation, reading, working, or simply lingering over a drink. It’s a space meant to be experienced, not rushed through.

Our coffee is prepared slowly, one cup at a time using traditional Vietnamese phin filters. We work with a house blend of Vietnamese Arabica and Robusta from the Central Highlands, brewed by hand to highlight the character of each cup. Alongside our coffee, refreshing sparkling fruit drinks, and a carefully curated menu that celebrates simple, thoughtful flavors.

The name Một Đời means one life—a reminder that some of life’s best moments aren’t the hurried ones, but the conversations, ideas, and memories that unfold when we slow down.

Whether you’re meeting a friend, catching up on work, enjoying a date, or discovering a new favorite café, we hope you’ll make yourself at home.
