🎶✊🏾 Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
As we honor this important day, it’s impossible not to reflect on all the incredible Black artists whose voices, talents, and courage helped shape not only jazz, but American history itself.
Artists like Nina Simone, Charles Mingus, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Max Roach used more than notes and melodies. They used their art as a voice for justice, dignity, and change.
Jazz has always been more than music. It is freedom expressed through improvisation. It is resilience turned into rhythm. It is the sound of individuals finding their voice while creating something greater together.
Today we celebrate Juneteenth, and remembering those who fought for freedom and equality, and honor the generations of Black musicians whose contributions continue to inspire us, challenge us, and bring us together.
❤️💛💚 Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Walker’s Jazz Lounge. May we continue to listen, learn, celebrate, and keep the spirit of freedom alive through music. 🎷✨
