🔹🔹Hispanic Heritage Month & last week’s password lead right into this week’s password: clave rhythm is what ***Cubop*** is all about! Not to mention, this week’s Friday night performance features one of the best Cubop bands around!

***Cubop*** (a combination of "Cuba" and "bebop") is an electrifying subgenre of Afro-Cuban jazz that developed in New York City during the 1940s. It was birthed at the cultural crossroads of Spanish Harlem and the 52nd Street jazz scene.

An interesting dimension of ***Cubop's*** history is the language barrier between its co-creators: Dizzy Gillespie spoke no Spanish, and Chano Pozo spoke very little English, yet they composed legendary standards together purely through rhythm and musical intuition, proving that:

"Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common."
