Montecito Ristorante * Lounge Downtown Waukesha's Newest Hot Spot! MONTECITO; An unincorporated community of some 9,000 is located just west of Santa Barbara on the California coast.

The area was inhabited by the Chumash Indians for over 10,000 years. The Spanish arrived in the 18th century but left the region unsettled while they built the Mission, Santa Barbara. In the Mid 19th century the area was a known haven for bandits who hid in the oak groves and canyons, preying on the traffic between the towns and missions. By the end of the 1860’s the bandit gangs were gone, and th

e Italian settlers had arrived. Finding the area reminiscent of Italy, they built farms and gardens similar to those they had left behind. By the end of the 19th century wealthy tourists bought land in the area. Today the area is known for its historic architecture, powder soft sandy beaches, and festivals. Notable residents have included Kirk Douglass, Tripper Gore, Julia Child, and Oprah Winfrey. The Montecito de Waukesha is a haven for friends to meet over fine food and beverages. But beware for those bandits are known to come out after dark.
