Columbia Room is a cocktail bar created by Derek Brown, where the ingredients, techniques and lore of cocktails merge together to create a memorable experience. We focus on exceptional service and meticulously crafted cocktails paired with food. But, in the end, our bar is about people— the people who make the ingredients, drinks and, especially, those who drink them. At Columbia Room we have thre

e distinct spaces—our Tasting Room, Spirits Library and Punch Garden. Seats at the Tasting Room are ticketed and we offer two menus: a three course and five course menu of cocktails paired with snacks. Our Spirits Library and Punch Garden are open seating at tables, though space is limited. At the Spirits Library, we offer one-of-a-kind spirits as well as classic and original cocktails à la carte, along with a selection of snacks. Our Punch Garden is outdoors and serves carefully crafted punches and bottled cocktails.

👋 Hi, Derek here. I’m switching things up a little.

First off, I miss the Columbia Room, too. Thankfully, an equally great space , is taking over in the same space. While I’m not entirely sure of their timeline, I do know they’re working hard to bring their particular brand of cocktail magic to D.C. Follow them for more details!

In the meantime, I’m launching my new company, Positive Damage, Inc. Positive Damage, Inc. was founded by me to change the way we drink by creating a culture of mindful drinking and making room for everyone at the bar with delicious no- and low-alcohol drinks. We merge mindful drinking, wellness, and no- and low-alcohol cocktails to create programs, classes, and events for companies, consumers, and individual clients.

Of course, there is so much more to share. For now, I just want to let you all know why the name and posts are changing. Stay tuned for more details.

Starting 11/26, we will do something we’ve never done before in the Tasting Room: serve cocktails à la carte. We will be featuring a new theme, Derek’s Greatest Hits (or some of our owner Derek Brown’s favorite creations), including The Getaway and Lost Boys Cocktail.

You can choose a tasting of three, mix and match, or order just one. (Food is available through but will not be specifically paired.)

Make reservations through and come out on this weekend to see Derek’s last scheduled shift. Otherwise, make reservations anytime! 🍸

We’re wrapping up our latest tasting menu this weekend and excited for the future, which is why we’re also posting this. Many of the speakers at the opening of the exhibit at stopped by last night to sip our take on the future: Insects, Algae, and Mushrooms.

The future is a complicated place for so many but also a hopeful place. We’re grateful to share in that hope and meet so many wonderful contributors to making our world better.

Our Story

Columbia Room is a cocktail bar created by Derek Brown, where the ingredients, techniques and lore of cocktails merge together to create a memorable experience. We focus on exceptional service and meticulously crafted cocktails. But, in the end, our bar is about people— the people who make the ingredients, drinks and, especially, those who drink them. Our Tasting Room experience is now à la carte but reservations are required. However, the Tasting Room is temporarily closed. We anticipate opening for service in Phase 3 of DC’s reopening following COVID-19. We continue to offer a selection of bottled cocktails available to-go or for delivery Wednesday through Saturday. If you don’t see what you want on the menu, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any special requests.

Our Punch Garden patio currently hosts Your Only Friend, a pop-up dinner party concept with sandwiches and cocktails curated by Paul Taylor. In-person dining begins July 1. Reservations only. We also continue to offer takeout and delivery services for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday.
