Let’s talk about data centers…

We care deeply about small towns. We believe in them. We invest in them. We’ve bet our livelihoods on them.

That being said, we’ve never been what you’d call rule followers.

We’re rule exploiters.

Not in the sense that we break them. In the sense that we learn them. We study them. We figure out where the opportunities are hidden inside them.

Because one of the biggest differences between the haves and the have nots isn’t intelligence, talent, or even hard work.

It’s understanding how the rules actually work.

The people with money hire attorneys, accountants, consultants, lobbyists, and experts whose entire job is finding advantages hidden in the fine print. They don’t win because they’re special. They win because they know how to navigate the system.

Meanwhile, everyone else is standing at a podium for three minutes at a town council meeting hoping someone in power listens.

If you care about your community, don’t just learn how to protest. Learn how to leverage. Learn zoning laws. Learn grants. Learn tax incentives. Learn environmental regulations. Learn historic preservation rules. Learn every boring little piece of bureaucracy that people ignore.

The future belongs to people willing to read the paperwork.

Small towns don’t need more people asking for permission.

They need more people learning how the game is actually played.

We’d like to take a moment to appreciate our neighbors Versailles Farm & Garden.

As we’ve been transforming our patio from “a fenced in gravel yard” into something a little more magical, they’ve been there every step of the way. Answering questions. Pointing us in the right direction. Offering the professional advice we were very clearly lacking.

Turns out creating a garden is harder than just sticking plants in the ground and hoping for the best.

Who knew?

Their knowledge, patience, and guidance have helped bring this project to life, and we’re incredibly grateful for it.

The patio officially reopens June 2nd, and honestly, it’s become so beautiful we’ve started calling it The Queen’s Garden.

A little Wonderland. Right here in Versailles.

So if you’re looking for people who know their stuff and genuinely care about helping local projects succeed, go show Versailles Farm & Garden some love. We couldn’t have done this without them.

Tonight‘s poetry open mic will have a cover charge that will be donation based. All proceeds go to help support a local teacher during her time of need recovering from hip surgery. I hope to see you tonight from 7 to 9 PM.

Alright keyboard warriors, let’s talk about it.

We’ve caught a lot of flak lately because some of our posts are considered “controversial.” And honestly? Walking that line is intentional.

Why?

Because that’s what people engage with.

That’s not even me being cynical, that’s just how social media works now. The algorithm rewards emotion. Conflict. Debate. Outrage. Passion. If people are arguing in the comments, sharing the post, tagging friends, the machine says “wow this must matter” and pushes it harder.

Case in point: Thursday we’re hosting a fundraiser for a local teacher recovering from surgery. A genuinely positive thing for someone who has poured years into this community. That post barely moved.

But the second we push back against being called “yuppies” or challenge people a little? Boom. Huge numbers.

So understand this: businesses adapt to what gets engagement. If people ignore positive community posts but flood controversial ones with comments and shares, then the system incentivizes us, and honestly everyone online, to keep pushing the envelope.

You don’t change internet culture by complaining about it. You change it by rewarding different behavior.

If you want social media to be more positive, support the positive posts louder than the drama posts.

Otherwise don’t act shocked when the internet keeps internetting.

Nanci J Mays is an author, teacher, poet, mentor, and a personal friend of mine. I lovingly refer to her as my “poetry aunt.” For over two decades, she has poured into students and the poetry community, helping others find their voice and building spaces for artists to grow.

Recently, Nanci underwent hip surgery and will be unable to work for the next few months during recovery. So we want to show how powerful this community can be when we come together.

Thursday on May 28th from 7–9 PM, we will be hosting a special Poetry Open Mic Night at The White Rabbit Lounge. This will be our first ever open mic with a cover charge, and 100% of proceeds will go toward helping Nanci with living and medical expenses during recovery.

Come read, listen, support, or simply show up. Let’s take care of one of our own. ❤️

A couple weeks ago we asked a dangerous question on Facebook:

“Why hasn’t our patio been more popular?”

And honestly? The answer was fair. A lot of people said the downstairs was just too cool. The patio didn’t pass the vibe check. Which, if we’re being honest, hurt our feelings a little… but also felt like a challenge.

Because we never really set out to be everyone’s favorite bar.

We wanted to be the coolest bar.

And yeah, we know “cool” changes faster than 6, 7… but as we get ready for the grand reopening of our patio, we’re feeling pretty confident we finally cracked the code.

The mural is almost finished.
The landscaping has officially been… landscaped.
The lighting, music, and ambience (you know, the things we probably should’ve prioritized sooner) are finally where they need to be.

It feels magical now. Like you accidentally stumbled into a hidden courtyard somewhere far cooler than Ripley County has any business having.

So now we’re curious.

With the patio officially opening for summer…
