The world lost a true icon today. Dolly Parton—one of the biggest voices, brightest lights, and most genuinely kind souls to ever grace a stage—has passed away at 80.

For generations, Dolly gave us music, laughter, rhinestones, big hair, bigger dreams, and a reminder that you never have to apologize for being exactly who you are.

But to so many of us in the LGBTQ+ community, Dolly meant something even more.

She understood that love was never meant to come with conditions.

In a world where it would have been easier to stay quiet, Dolly repeatedly chose kindness. She stood up for LGBTQ+ people, welcomed q***r fans, defended the freedom to love who you love, and reminded us that faith, compassion, and acceptance don't have to be enemies. She didn't need to be loud about it to make an impact. She simply kept opening her arms and making room at the table.

And perhaps that's the most Dolly thing of all.

She had a way of making people feel like there was a place for them.

For the kid who felt different.
For the person who hadn't found their people yet.
For the q***r person who needed to hear that they were worthy of love.
For anyone who ever felt like they didn't quite fit into the world around them.

Dolly made room.

So tonight, we raise a glass to the woman who taught us that you can be glamorous and gracious, powerful and kind, unapologetically yourself and still have an enormous heart.

Thank you, Dolly, for the songs.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the love.
And thank you for reminding generations of LGBTQ+ people that we deserve a seat at the table, too.
