Congratulations! Robert Smith, director of the African American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio, says it's an honor to be distinguished under the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mr. Smith was awarded by Governor Mike Dewine and the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission with the Humanitarian Award at the Ohio Awards.
The ceremony honors the service and achievements of Ohio residents and organizations in areas consistent with the teachings and example of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mr. Smith preserves African American history in Northwest Ohio and displays it at the African American Legacy Project's History Museum. He is currently working on creating a historic district around Toledo's Dorr Street.
Here is what the person who nominated Mr. Smith had to say:
“For more than two decades, Smith has championed equity, education, and heritage preservation across the Toledo region, ensuring that the values of Dr. King continue to thrive in tangible, life-changing ways,” said his nominator. “His humility and unwavering commitment perfectly embody the essence of Dr. King’s humanitarian ideal.”
