This workshop will focus on basic strengthening exercises for tribal-fusion belly dance technique, as well as a combination that will be taught after an introduction to the technique. The introduction to the dance technique will include a brief history of tribal-fusion and its roots in Eastern and Middle Eastern dance styles. The technique portion of the class will include basic body isolations, body positions, and footwork, as well as a breakdown of the musicality of Yoni’s tribal-fusion style.
-Yoni Biyé has been performing tribal-fusion bellydance since 2010. Yoni has taken workshops and classes with Donna Mejia, Joe Williams, and Zoe Jakes, among others, to complement his intense independent study since 2007. His style focuses on improvisation and a theatrical, storytelling element. People of Color in Performance discussion, facilitated by Nadira Grubbs of Seven Cities Dance Studio. Burlesque with Boo – Beginner Choreography You Can Steal! and Musicality Exploration
If you ever have a hard time coming up with enough choreography to fill out an entire number or are looking for new moves to spice things up this workshop is for you! You will learn several phrases of movement to a specific song. After learning the movement we will start changing the music to see how the choreography can shift and change to fit any song. Working with varying your own tempo and quality we will explore the many ways to use music to surprise and excite you and your audience. Steal my choreography and make it your own!
