MEET THE POET

M'Reld Green

M'Reld Green is one of thee most dynamic spoken word artist of her generation. M'Reld has been featured on Russell Simmons presents HBO Def Poetry Jam, BET Lyric Cafe and TVOne Verses & Flow. She has shared the stage with a host of celebrated acts which includes Angie Stone, Ledisi, Eric Roberson, MC Lyte and many others. A true wordsmith M'Reld has performed for then Illinois State Senator now President Barack Obama.
Her gifted poetry has allowed her to travel across this country featuring at acclaimed venues such as the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe in New York City to Fly Poets in Los Angeles. M'Reld has shared her work in 33 of the 50 states and continues on touring to add to the completion of all 50 states by early 2016.
Outside of being acknowledged as one of the nations premiere poets, M'Reld is also an ambassador for peace, social justice and youth advocacy. She continues her involvement with Chicago Public Schools. Also she has used her spoken word as a teaching tool for non for profit agencies such as The Black Star Program and Institute for Positive Living.

Alex Jerome Lofton, AKA
HUGGYBEAR

Huggy Bear Da Poet was born and raised in the city of Mobile Alabama. Though his talents have allotted him the opportunities to travel the world. Huggy has graced the stages of venues in states from GreenCourt in L. A.; Apache Café in Atlanta; to the Nuyorican Café in New York City. He has opened up and for such greats as Nikki Giovanni and Jesse Jackson.He has graced the stage with some of the biggest poets,comics & entertainers in the industry Huggy writes from the heart and performs from the soul. He uses spoken word to motivate, empower, and agitate people toward social change. His "in your face" style of performance provides a catalyst to make one look deep within ones self and face those things that might be one of your own personal fears. In his travels Huggy has become painfully aware of the struggles his people still endure. He spits poems of social resistance, as he captures the pain and triumph of being black in todays society. Through spoken word Alex Huggy Bear Lofton II, hopes the social change will not be revolutionary, but evolutionary in the sense that it will be the ultimate tool in our struggle to make Black America better..

MEET THE ARTIST, MUSICIAN THE MOGUL

BELL DARRIS

Well rounded, Violinist, Published Writer, Hip Hop artist, and Host;
Bell is not exaggerating when she proclaims herself as a mogul. Growing up in St. Louis, MO, she was greatly influenced by music. Her mother is the seasoned pianist and teacher and her father is a guitarist, producer and film maker. It was innate for her to develop a love for music. Starting off in the church Bell directed the choir, wrote songs and sung many solos. At school she excelled in writing and art and began to take violin lessons when she was 6. Continuing her musical journey she won many contests and joined the youth chamber orchestra(an all black youth orchestra). Some of her fondest moments were with her mom and dad all playing their instruments in their living room. Unfortunately her parents split up and they moved to the “hood”. It was an easy adjustment for her because she's always been able to easily make friends and adapt to new situations. She continued to be instrumental in music and art and began to add more soul to her poems and spit them with a hip hop feel. After graduating from high school she went on to college. While attending school in California the atmosphere just added to her diversity and made her a better musician. Returning to St. Louis she began to teach after school programs and founded a weekly talent showcase called Mic Check Mondays which recently celebrated a 6 Year Anniversary. She also decided to pursue an artistic dream of starting a clothing line called Forever Fly. She became a writer for a magazine called Delux. Urban Promoter for the Fox theatre. She is most proud of being Market Coordinator lead for the Walgreens Expressions Challenge. Her debut album “Saved by Da Bell” is almost complete and she continues to encourage her peers to follow their dreams. Bell is a star that will definitely shine for years to come.
