I like how the presentation spent significant time discussing the origins of terms like QPR and zucchini. Much of the as*xual community's discourse and language has developed online and that's something to be respected and celebrated. All of the video and media content was interesting and well-curated. I had never heard AVEN's founder speak. I liked hearing his time-feelings-promises framework. I left the presentation feeling like the relationships I desire can be achieved.”

One of the many ways Ace and Aro identities are inherently Q***r is how they add dimensionality to the ways of Q***ring the societal expectations and common religious mandates to form procreative bonds. Both in the rejection of, and alternative pathways to family formation.

Postpartum As*xual Awakening

Sensual Attraction ≠ S*xual Attraction
ㅤ
Sensual Attraction is a desire for touch that may include hugging, cuddling, kissing, petting, and/or other contact. Often equated with “Skin Hunger.” Some As*xual folks enjoy s*x for the closeness, connection, and touch it offers.
ㅤ
Postpartum, it's not uncommon for parents to get "touched out" due to the constant demands placed upon them by a new baby. This may mean that requests for s*x by a partner may be received as added demand to the already touched out parent.
ㅤ
This can lead to a decrease or cessation of interest or willingness to engage in s*xual activity.
ㅤ

Often discussion in the s*xuality field around postpartum support will focus on making space for s*x in this new dynamic.
ㅤ
As*xuality reminds us that we also need to make space for "I don't want to go back to having s*x."
ㅤ
This may be when some people consider “Maybe I’m As*xual.”
ㅤ
This consideration may be pathologized, medicalized, or dismissed if the clinician is unaware of how this dynamic can play out.
ㅤ
As*xuality can easily be obscured by other forms of attraction when the person does not have access to this language.
ㅤ
Not wanting s*x needs to be a valid and supported option.
ㅤ
