For many years, Blues Underground has been a beloved part of Seattle's Blues dance community.

As many of you know, Blues Underground transitioned from a Savoy Swing Club event to part of the Seattle Blues Dance Collective earlier this year. As we continue building the future of Blues dancing in Seattle, we're simplifying where we share information and connect with our community.

Going forward, all Blues Underground announcements, event updates, class information, and community news will be shared through Seattle Blues Dance Collective.

This page will remain online as an archive of Blues Underground's history, but new updates will primarily be posted through SBDC moving forward.

Thank you to everyone who has danced, volunteered, DJed, taught, organized, and helped make Blues Underground Seattle's longest-running Blues dance. We're excited to continue this tradition as part of the growing Seattle Blues Dance Collective community.

See you on the dance floor. 💙

🚨 Quick update for tonight!

We had a last-minute shift in our teaching lineup… and we’re so excited about who’s stepping in.

Ruth Evelyn (they/she) - an international Blues dance instructor (and one of Lila’s very first Blues teachers) - will be leading tonight’s drop-in lesson.

Ruth has been dancing for over 30 years, with roots across modern, Blues, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Argentine Tango, and more. Their work weaves together deep experience in performance, somatics (including Franklin Method certifications), and a current focus on dance and movement therapy. They’ve taught and performed all over the world — and bring a grounded, thoughtful approach to helping people connect to their bodies, the music, and each other.

Join us tonight, April 17th: 8:30–9:30pm - Lesson with Ruth
9:30pm–12am - Dancing with DJs Valkyrie & Alex Hanning

BUG is back tomorrow... and this one’s about coming home to your body, your people, and the music.

Join us at Dance Underground for Seattle’s longest-running Blues dance, where connection comes first and every dance is its own conversation.

This month’s hosts, Ariele and Alexandra, both bring a deep love for Blues as a space for expression, creativity, and community - whether you’re stepping onto the floor for the first time or returning to something that already feels like yours.

Blues Underground returns Friday, March 20th at Dance Underground, kicking off with a lesson by Dillon Arevalo from 8:30-9:30pm, followed by a night of dancing, connection, and all the textures Blues has to offer.

This month’s lead host, Ariele Gold, brings a spirit shaped by years of exploration and a moment of magic in a divey Houston lounge where Blues first clicked - that rare feeling of being fully at home in your body. For Ariele, Blues is a celebration of contrast: exuberance and tension, independence and attunement, creativity and connection. After time away from Blues scenes, finding community again through BUG has been a powerful return - one that continues to lift and inspire.

Supporting as assistant host (and teaching our lesson!) is Dillon Arevalo (he/him), whose dance journey began with a cookie-fueled invitation to Swing in 2007. Since then, Dillon has built a practice rooted in both cultural/historical understanding and artistic co-creation. He's especially drawn to the way Blues allows two dancers to move as one while still holding onto their individual voice - and they love helping others discover that same magic.

Come dance. Come listen. Come find what moves you.

This Friday, we’re going underground. 🖤

Kick off the night with a lesson from Dillon Arevalo (8:30-9:30pm), whose journey into Blues dancing is rooted in curiosity, musicality, and a deep love for connection. Whether you’re brand new or returning to the floor, Dillon brings a thoughtful, grounded approach that meets you where you are - and invites you to go further.

Then we keep the energy flowing with DJ sets from Maya Dawson and Tony Sciscio, spinning Blues that will carry us late into the night.

Come learn, come dance, come be in it with us.

Meet Jen Sherman (she/her) 💙
Secretary + Bookkeeper of the Seattle Blues Dance Collective, BUG core team officer, and devoted Blues dancer since 2008.

Jen’s dance story began at age seven with Texas Two-Step in her family living room, and has since grown into a deep love of Blues, Fusion, and Contra. As an organizer, she brings warmth, care, and a commitment to welcoming dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels.

As you can see in her interview, Jen believes in the magic that happens when people connect through music and movement - and she works hard behind the scenes (and on the dance floor!) to help that magic thrive in our community.

✨ Come say hi and share a dance with Jen in-person at Blues Underground on Friday, February 20th, 8:30pm–12am. She’ll be hosting! ✨

Meet Amanda Wanner (she/her) 💫
Beloved Blues educator, movement explorer, and former Director of Blues Underground.

Amanda began her dance journey in Chicago in 2004 and has been a pillar of the Pacific Northwest Blues community since 2008. Known for her grounded presence and joyful curiosity, Amanda’s teaching invites dancers into pulse, Blues aesthetic, play, and authentic self-expression. After time devoted to martial arts and family life, she returned to Blues in 2022 with renewed passion - diving into new dances, directing Blues Underground, and continuing to uplift dancers to stretch beyond their comfort zones while staying deeply connected to themselves and the music.

✨ Don’t miss the chance to learn from Amanda in person at Blues Underground this Friday, February 20th! Lesson 8:30-9:30pm, followed by social dancing until midnight. ✨
