On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

At the Top of the Mark, this gratitude lives on through a powerful tradition: the Squadron Bottle. Born during World War II, servicemen would leave a bottle behind for the next member of their squadron. A gesture of camaraderie, hope, and remembrance. The only rule? Whoever has the last shot must buy the next bottle, continuing the legacy.

Today, the tradition thrives. Veterans and active service members can still enjoy a free “Squadron Shot,” surrounded by panoramic views of San Francisco and heartfelt tributes tucked into journals behind the bar. Each bottle tells a story. Each toast honors a life of service. To all who’ve served: we salute you.

At the Top of the Mark, we are humbled to be a part of extraordinary stories that span generations. In 2018, we welcomed IG/, who visited us to honor the memory of her grandfather, Major Ben Perry Farrens—a true WWII hero. In 1945, after serving courageously in the Philippines, Major Farrens celebrated his homecoming right here, creating cherished memories with his fellow soldiers.

More than 70 years later, his granddaughter—along with the $20 that he had given her to spend on a drink at Top of the Mark and accompanied by her family—stepped into our historic space to relive that special connection. Sitting by the window with sweeping views of San Francisco, they toasted with the Golden Gate cocktail. Moments like these remind us of the deep ties and meaningful experiences shared within our walls. We are honored to serve as a bridge between the past and present, where memories are both created and cherished. To all the heroes and families who have graced our establishment, we raise a glass in your honor. 🥂🫡
