Thankful to have made this one for the San Diego Pilot Association. If you didn’t know, the San Diego Pilots are responsible for safely bringing ships in and out of San Diego harbor. This board was made for a retiring San Diego Pilot. Thank you for your service and I hope to see this board out in the water a few times.

I was also fortunate enough to have finished a sailing charter right next to the retirement party and therefor felt obligated to party crash. It’s the Surf Lounge way. :-)

Howdy! I took some time off to clear my head after selling the shop. I took my bike and Surf Lounge camp mug from SD -> New Orleans and back. I came up with a few ideas with moving Surf Lounge in a forward direction. I’ll be posting semi regularly again. So stay tuned, stay stoked, and stay sane! Yewwwww!

Good news everyone. I have a great new spot to shape surfboards and do ding repairs. It’s a small studio in North Park. No room for customers, but I will still be in the North PB neighborhood to take orders and exchange boards. Yewwww!

Howdy everyone, it’s Derek, the owner of Surf Lounge.
�I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you to all of you for following and supporting Surf Lounge over the years. It truly has meant the world to me. We’ve had so much fun making surfboards, lounging, partying… and for a stretch of time, I was basically always here. It was home, and I loved sharing that feeling with all of you.

A lot of you know Surf Lounge started as an idea years before I opened the brick-and-mortar shop. My friends used to joke that my living room already looked like a surf shop, so eventually I just went for it. I knew I needed to offer more than surfboards, and my good friend Rob suggested coffee. Eventually I teamed up with someone to help make that dream real. Over time, that little dream grew into something so many people became a part of, and that has been incredibly special.

After 4.5 amazing years on Turquoise Street, it’s time for me to move in a new direction and take Surf Lounge into its next chapter. It feels wild to step away from a business that’s five stars on Google and still growing, but I know in the long run it’s the right move for me personally. I’m feeling all the emotions, the same ones I felt when I first opened the shop.

And just so everyone knows Surf Lounge is still very much alive. I’m still making custom surfboards, and all of our merch is available online. The brand is continuing forward, and I’m excited to keep creating for all of you while the next chapter takes shape.

When the time is right, I’ll share what’s coming next. I already have a few ideas for the next evolution of Surf Lounge, and I’m looking for investors and dreamers who want to be part of it.

Thanks again for being here with me through all of it. In the mean time I’ll see you out in the line up and walking around town.

Golden hour looks good on these two ✨ Just Mahi and Garibaldi catching light instead of waves, for now. These two were shaped with meaning, inspired by the ocean, and brought to life with insane resin work.
