The Shrimp Toast-ada 🍤 🍞 🌮

Have you tried this clever dish yet? Chorizo shrimp, escabeche cremosa, pico slaw, queso fresco and Tajín come together on a blue masa tortilla and delight the senses. A brilliant play on the classic shrimp toast in tostada form, this dish is perfect our gluten free and pescatarian friends.

Guest appearance by the cocktail Fox Force Five: Spiced rum, blanco tequila, mezcal, herbal liqueur, banana, coconut, lime and grapefruit. A big, juicy fruit punch built to be shared by two people or enjoyed by one brave soul.

Happy Sunday Rum Day!

Tonight we are bringing one back for a victory lap, Ron Abuelo 12 Two Oaks! We already love the normal 12 year from these guys, and this one starts off as that, but then ages an additional 9 months in heavily charred American oak, imparting some serious smokiness to this already awesome rum. Founded in 1908 in Panama, the distillery that produces this rum is one of only a handful worldwide that uses molasses from its own estate grown sugar cane. Pretty cool!

SUNDAY RUMDAY: Mount Gay 1703, 2018 Vintage 🏝️

We got a special one today, folks! 1703 is a premium blend of aged pot and column still rums from Barbado’s historic Mount Gay distillery. The minimum age in this bottle is 10 years, but also incorporates rums up to 30 years old. No added sugar, no other additives, just great rum, artfully aged and perfectly blended. Tonight only, enjoy a 1 ounce pour for $5, a price tag you’ll rarely see for a rum of this caliber.

Bacardí Ocho Cask Finishes 🍹 🥃 🦇

Bacardí is maybe the most famous name in the rum game, right? Founded in 1862 in pre-revolution Cuba, Bacardí was already a huge name in the spirits industry by the time, the Cuban Revolution seized all private property in 1960. Fortunately, Bacardí had grown so much that they opened a distillery in Puerto Rico in 1936, which would soon become its homebase. Despite now being a multinational spirits company, quality is still as much in focus now as it’s ever been. Bacardí Ocho, their 8 year old rum, is a standard around these parts and these limited edition cask finishes, sherry and rye whiskey, are a shining example of how much change a little time in a different barrel can make. Get in here tonight for $5 one ounce pours til close!

SUNDAY RUMDAY: Ron del Barrilito 3 Star ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

As one of Puerto Rico’s oldest rum producers, Ron del Barrilito has been making rum since all the way back in 1880, but surprisingly hasn’t distilled a drop of it since 1917! As we learned on a staff trip to their facility, Barrilito is all about aging and blending. To start, a sourced un-aged Dominican rum is brought in and aged in their warehouses, exclusively in used oloroso sherry butts. A small amount of rum (2.5% of the total batch to be exact) is macerated with a secret recipe of fruits and spices and added to the mix. And then they let time work its magic 🪄. Pulling from aged stocks, this 3 Star bottling contains a blend of rums from 6-8 years old, zero added sugar, artificial coloring or flavors, and is proofed down to 43% abv. The result? A super smooth and robust rum that begs to be enjoyed slowly and thoughtfully, a product of time and tradition, and not much more.

SUNDAY RUMDAY: Cruzan Island Reserve 13 Year Rum

Cruzan Rum is deeply rooted in St. Croix so much so that the name literally means “of St. Croix”. The foundations of rum making date all the way back to 1760 when the Estate Diamond was founded to mill sugar cane and make sugar. After prohibition ended, some local investors had the bright idea to turn that molasses, sugar’s “industrial waste”, into rum, and that’s what they did in 1934, establishing Cruzan Rum. It’s been churning ever since then, with the Nelthropp family taking over operations in 1950. While the brand sold to spirit megacorp Suntory Global Spirits in 2014, the Nelthropp family still manages the company in St. Croix.

This bottling is a baller blend of 48% 13-year-old rum, 22% 16-year-old rum, and 30% 20-year-old rum, bottled at 40% abv. All rum was aged in ex-bourbon barrels and blended at the Suntory blending facility in Bardstown, Kentucky prior to bottling. Pop on by tonight and enjoy a one ounce pour of this for the low price of $5!

SUNDAY RUMDAY: Jung & Wulff: No. 2 Guyana

We ran the Trinidad bottling of this a few weeks back and figured we ought to run the Guyana one for good measure! As a refresher, Jung & Wulff is a new-ish line of rums from Sazerac, named for the former proprietors and importers of fine spirits for the Sazerac House. The contents of this blend of Guyana rums comes from Demerara Distillers Limited, the same source as El Dorado, Pussers and Hart & Sons, and was blended by Sazerac’s Master Blender Drew Mayville, with the oldest rums in the blend being 15 years old. There is no added sugar and it was bottled at 43% abv. Tonight is your night to try some juice from one of our favorite producers!
