Brugal 1888 👴🏻 🥃

Dominican Rupublic’s Brugal was founded in 1888 by a Catalonian-born Don Andres Brugal Montaner, who first landed in Cuba, where he started making rum. 18 years later he ended up in DR where he started his own operation. The facility that makes Brugal’s rums has moved a couple times but has withstood the test of time, and this aged rum is one that tells the company’s story in one bottle. Blending rums that have been aged in American oak barrels that once held whiskey and Spanish sherry barrels, this bottle doesn’t carry an age statement, though many have speculated that it combines rums aged between 5 and 14 years of age. The result is blended to meet a flavor profile and is as good an entry point into aged rums as many of the other bottles on our back bar. So why don’t you swing on through for a couple $5 one ounce pours while they last? Tonight only!

On this day in 1862 the Mexican army unexpectedly defeated the French army at the battle of Puebla, and this day would become a holiday representing unity, resilience and a celebration of Mexican heritage and culture. While we don’t need an excuse to drink more tequila, we are happy to do our part in helping you do so 🫡. Flor de Caña 12 Year 🥃

Those who enjoy aged rum are certainly no stranger to this brand, Nicaragua’s monolithic rum distillery Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua which produces the historic brand Flor de Caña. Founded in 1890 by Italian immigrant Francisco Alfredo Pellas Canessa, the company grew to include sugarcane fields and a sugar manufacturing operation that produces the molasses necessary for rum production. Now in its fifth generation of ownership under the Pellas name, the company has survived the Nicaraguan Revolution, having its property and company seized and nationalized by the government (and returned to Pellas some 12 years later). Flor de Caña is renowned for its old rums and its lean Spanish-style flavor profile and this 12 year rum is especially delicious and a great entry into some of their even older age statements.

SUNDAY RUMDAY: Coconut Cartel 🥥 🍹 🌴

How about a coconut rum this week? According to their website, this brand was born out of the owners’ prior business, which revolved around sourcing and smuggling premium coconuts into the country inside duffel bags. Once they made it to Miami, they would serve cocktails inside of them to their elite celebrity guests. It’s only natural that they would eventually find themselves combining said coconuts with rum.

This rum is produced in Guatemala at DARSA, the distillery responsible for Ron Zacapa and Botran rums, and is reportedly a blend of 4-12 year old rums. Once the blend is made, it is proofed down with fresh coconut water and is honestly way more delicious than any of us would’ve ever imagined. Stop in tonight for some $5 one ounce pours of your new favorite rum!
