ll folks this is a long post, so sit back and read along! The main thing we are asking for is support and understanding at this time. So, here goes…
Emily and I have had a tough year with Dad’s passing and work slowing; culminating in a rough road mentally and financially. We have tried hard to keep our head above water and pursue our dreams, despite these unexpected losses. However, trying to keep our dream alive and get it off the ground has been exhausting, and in the current financial climate we have had to face some unfortunate realities about our odds of not only being able to find investment for our tiki bar, but our odds of being able to do this and make it a success while facing other realities left in the wake of the loss of Dad.
The amazing thing about life and about Emily’s and my relationship and creative outlook is that dreams can morph and change, which is what is happening for us right now.
We are shifting gears, for now, away from a San Antonio-based Tiki bar.
The Midnight House will live on, just in a different and unexpected way.
The place on Hildebrand is just not working for us. High rent and high hopes along with a landlord that will not help even when it would make the building technically habitable have left us no choice but to stop the money hose.
We have decided to also sell our house. Yes, this includes The Raven, our beloved watering hole in the back yard that has been an important gathering place for our incredible growing friendship and family community for the past 5 or so years.
This has been one of the hardest things we have had to come to terms with. But, we are in a situation where this decision is the only correct way to go in order for us to have a chance at making our dreams come true, righting our financial ship and having some stability in our future.
Our new goal for the future? We will be pursuing a move and a house in Jefferson, Texas, a very small community about 6.5 hours from here on the northeast edge of Texas near Shreveport. There, we will hopefully have a place that will be not only a home over our heads, but also an investment for our future, a bed and breakfast, events space, small restaurant and yes, even a hidden tiki bar.
We have made amazing friends in Jefferson and see it as a place that is on the cusp of some fun updating and new life that our friends there have started already, and we would love to continue for the community. It is a quirky little town covered in antiques, that we feel could, as our friends at the Jefferson Hotel have done, compliment with some vitality and something we feel could attract a new generation into this cool town. We truly feel this is not only a move that is right for us but a move that feels good and a chance after a very hard 5 years to make a life.
I’m sure our film family is wondering where RockEm Productions, our relationship with TSB, Shooters, and others are headed. We will still be working production when gigs arise, have family we can stay with to work local and can fly out of Shreveport or Dallas to any major city. As Emily says, she can hardly count on both hands the in-person production meetings she has had over the past four years, so production should be business as usual with the added bonus of a crew meeting house for the soon to be very popular again (thanks M. Night Shyamalan) swamp locales… picturing a GMC truck loading up an airboat and off-roading those East Texas hills in our near future 🤣…and yes we are already friends with the East Texas locations manager and film commissioner. Simply an expansion/sister city of San Antonio resources!
We want to make sure you all know that we love you all, our family here, our community our friends and our neighbors. Jefferson is only a fun little road trip away and we will be back and forth. So, not only can you all come and visit us, but you can help be Guinea pigs for The Midnight House B&B.
We would like to also say if you or someone you know would be interested in our house/The Raven, please message Rocky or Emily and we can give you the full lowdown.
There are a lot of things that need to fall into place, but those dominos are starting to fall!
Love each and every one of you!
Kaw Kaw soon!
Rock and Em
