Charles Donald "Red" Hughes Obituary
Charles Donald "Red" Hughes
November 22, 1940 - January 30, 2019
Raleigh
Red Hughes (78), of Raleigh, NC, died peacefully on Wednesday morning 1/30/19 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh.
Born Charles Donald Hughes in Haw River, NC in 1940, however, best known as Red Hughes of Reds Beach Music, spent over 40 years hosting beach music fans from all over the east coast. He loved the entertainment business and his nightclubs were the places to be for so many over the years. Every Wednesday night was Ladies Night and people drove from near and far to s**g on that hardwood. Many remember him sitting at the end of the bar, red solo cup in hand, and giving a big thumbs up! Red was also a huge NASCAR fan as his club walls were adorned with tributes to #3 Dale Earnhardt. He was Grandpa Red to Madison and Cameron and loved his grandbabies.
Red is survived by his two children; Kristi Hughes Rosenberg (48) of Pennington, NJ; Kevin Hughes (46) of Raleigh, NC, two beautiful grandchildren Madison (15) and Cameron Rosenberg (13); siblings; Brenda Grudzinski; Sandy Rogers; Butch Hughes; Beverly Wolfgram; Ann Luthy; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is celebrating the life of Red through a special page: "Red Hughes Memorial - a big thumbs up to you". Feel free to post pictures, stories, memories and messages to Kristi, Kevin or other friends and family.
If you would like to honor Red's memory with a donation; the family has chosen Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, the hospice home where he spent his last week in comfort and peace. https://transitionslifecare.org/donate/
