I’m sure there’s another recording of this in my collection, but I feel like I’m hearing it for the first time here. Absolutely beautiful

Had a great club meeting at Hahn Family Chiropractic this Saturday. worked on Merrily Kissed the Quaker and posted a video on my You Tube page to help slow it down and get the melody notes in. and read a nice blog post this morning on Tips for Learning Irish Music which I'll put here. Keep on piping..

Unlock the secret to learning Irish music by ear with fresh techniques beyond repetition. Master trad tunes and play with confidence.

This is something I am going to try and watch. What an amazing opportunity for those separated by oceans and miles.

The Virtual Guided Session, which began its uninterrupted run six years ago, has been a huge part of our lives. We absolutely love sharing Irish music. And we have been awed by the kindness, humor, and generosity of the VGS community.

The season finale is this Saturday, May 9 at 2pm.

Throughout the run of these live-streamed sessions, we’ve made adjustments. We rearranged the room a few times, we’ve hosted dozens of special guests, and we’ve been through three cameras and two computers. But one thing has been a constant stalwart companion (a few weeks in to the VGS, once we figured out how to hook it up to Shannon’s dying laptop): the good ol’ Studio Projects B1 large condenser microphone.

The B1 is the 1998 Toyota Corolla of audio equipment. It is not flashy, it is not covetable, it is not cool. But it gets the job done. It was gifted to us by Eric Merrill when he moved because, well, he didn’t want it. We used it because we had it. But there is some serious magic in that little unassuming microphone. It always works. And to our amusement, we’ve gotten many messages over the years asking about our audio setup. It’s always hilarious to let people know there’s nothing high tech or fancy at the Heaton home of music. It’s just the B1.

We plan to toast the B1 this Saturday—three cheers to this piece of gear that has allowed us to connect with folks all over the world. See you then!

During the Tionól weekend, we have a great homemade feast on the Saturday for lunch, provided by the Price family. We take your dietery restrictions into account, and will ask you when the time comes. Kathleen bakes all desserts from scratch. Just sayin'.

Register for the South East Tionól!
