I just started a new discussion thread - Food and wine pairing. Throw your most difficult/interesting food/dish at me and I'll find an awesome wine pairing for it. If yours is the best that week, you'll win a $10 Red Slate gift certificate for the Friday Happy Hour.

Last night was the Classic Wines Auction, and we raised $2.2 million for 5 charities! This event has taken a lot of my time this week, so I haven't been posting as much. That'll change starting now.

Went to the Washington Wine Rocks tasting at the Doug Fur last night. Awesome concept, but the space was a bit small. Hopefully they'll do it again at the Crystal or Roseland next time.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the 7 for under $20 tasting is coming up next week. Please RSVP if you'd like to attend.

The Washington tasting this weekend was a great time. Lots of tasty wines enjoyed by all, but the favorite was the Gramercy Cellars Walla Walla Syrah 2007. It was awesome!

So on Friday I decided that I wanted to enjoy life, blow off work, and drink some wines with friends. We opened on the the Schioppettino I mentioned below and it was crazy good. I only have 2 bottles and I'm not sure that I'm going to part with them.

This Friday is the continuation of my normal hours 4-7pm. I’ll be pouring the just released 2006 Marchesi di Gresy Martinenga Barbaresco for $12/glass. This is probably my favorite winery in Piedmont. They’re wines are finesses driven and display exceptional complexity. I haven’t tasted the 06 Martinenga yet, so it will be a treat for all of us.

Yesterday I tasted a wine that shocked me - Bressan Schioppettino 2004 - This wine was delicious and esoteric and dorky all at once. When I first smelled it I thought it was complex and fascinating, but probably would be very appealing on the palate. I was wrong, it was fantastic. I'll have a few bottles at RS soon if you're interested its $40/bt.
