Great news friends! We're taking the next, small step toward reopening! Sunday Swing and large classes are still closed and will be for the time being. What we are thrilled to be able to offer for ALL levels is the following:

Two learning opportunities:

1) Individual or Couple 1-2 people*
The best value if you're looking for maximum, individual feedback and guidance on your dancing. You can really learn a lot with this option!
$65 -1 hour
$275 -5 hour package ($50 savings)
$500 -10 hour package ($150 savings)

2) Small Group of 3-4 people*
Want to get a deal and split lesson costs with a few friends? This is the best options if you’re looking for a significant amount of individual instruction but you’re on a tighter budget.
$25 per person per hour (i.e. 3 people for one hour would pay $25 each or a total of $75)

*These lessons take place in-person or via Skype, etc. In-person lessons are in Mindy’s backyard, kitchen or open garage for a low stress environment and more flexible schedule. That location is in Clark County near the I205 & SR500 interchange in Vancouver -just 15 minutes from the Portland airport.

Hey friends! Mindy here. I hope you're all holding up okay. Well, better than okay- I hope you're doing as well as can be! I've loved seeing a few of your cheerful faces during lessons on Skype. Also, in case you were wondering; beginning Lindy hop can totally be taught via Skype. Maybe it's time to talk your roommate into learning to dance:)

Good news! Private lessons via Skype or FaceTime work well, are fun and keep people in community! Email Mindy at [email protected] to discuss what might work best for you.

Also, we are now able to use Venmo (-Barnhart-2) and Cash App ($MindyBarnhart) if anyone would like to purchase a private lesson that you can use when and how we all feel safe to do that. If you have no preference between Venmo and Cash App, we prefer Venmo because we were able to set it up with both a business account (for lesson purchases) and a personal account (for anything non-dance related).

Looking forward: We anticipate being closed through April and we will re-evaluate as that time approaches. That will be 7 Sundays of no social dancing. A private lesson is usually $65 but if you would like to purchase 1 private lesson (pay during our closure and use it now via Skype or later when you feel safe), we'll lower the price to $60 which is what you'd pay for 6 weeks of Sunday Swing at the general admission rate.

Please do NOT feel obligated to do this! For those who feel able, this is an optional way to help us through this season and to be able to look forward to the private lesson you know you've been putting off taking;)

Best deals:
-If $60 is too much but you want to contribute a little something and still have a lesson in your future, we have a few cheaper (per person) options for small groups (you'd buy the lesson during our closure and schedule it for when everyone feels safe). You and a few friends can team up to have a lesson together.
-A package of 5 or 10 private lessons for yourself or you and one other person are also significantly cheaper per lesson if you're wanting multiple lessons.

Please know that we love you all even if we don't get to see and dance with you in person for a while!

We are getting creative and could use your help!

Stumptown Dance is Mindy's only source of income and Sunday Swing is the majority of that. Out of that income, Mindy buys the household groceries, covers her out of pocket medical expenses and covers car insurance for her and Sam. Businesses can't take donations and we'd like to earn our money. If you're able to use the money you're saving by not going to Sunday Swing to buy gift certificates for future private lessons or group lessons, that would give you something awesome to look forward to and would help us earn our way.

At this time we are able to sell gift certificates via snail mail. Make arrangements with Mindy to mail a check and we'll mail you a gift certificate.

For every Sunday we're closed, we'd have to sell an assortment of gift certificates to make up the financial loss (including supporting the Norse Hall by continuing to pay rent). They are not charging rent during closures so they are likely to loose thousands between the various renters. We'd like to pay our rent to them anyway if we can sell enough gift certificates!

The number in [brackets] is the estimated quantity of gift certificates we need to sell every week Sunday Swing is closed to meet this goal. The goal number reflects the number for each item as if no other items were being sold since every item is a different price.

-1 private lesson $65 [23]
-5 private lessons $275 [5-6]
-10 private lessons $500 [3]

Options for 3-4 people together:
-1 small group lesson $25/person ie. 3 people pay $75 [15-20]

Options for 5-12 people together:
-1 hour $100 [15]
-90 minutes $120 (minimum of 4 lessons) [3+ packages of 4]

Options for lessons and music at your wedding, family reunion, corporate party, etc. [depends on what you want to hire us to do]

6:30 Intermediate Plus ($5 additional) -we're teaching about an awesome way of connecting with dance partners that helps you lead/follow all the things you want to do as clearly as possible for more fun and exciting moments!
7:00 Intermediate -One handed tuck turn and more. Taking things up a notch from the beginning lesson.
7:30 Beginning -We'll get you on the dance floor and having a bit of fun no matter how many left feet you have!

Tonight is the Masquerade Ball at Sunday Swing and Rory Froschauer will be the DJ! Masks are strongly encouraged but are not required. You'll be extra cool if your clothing and mask are a coordinated set! Note- face paint qualifies as a mask.

Instructor Mindy Barnhart with student teachers Darcie Juarez & Alberto Gonzalez, will guide you to new levels of awesome whether this is your first time on a dance floor or dance is a way of life to you.
6:30 Intermediate Plus ($5 additional) -Learn how to really dance WITH your partner by actually leading and following the rock step instead of just doing it independently while holding hands. Then, use that skill to convert your 6-count dancing to 8-count dancing in a practical and fun way that feels really stretchy and nice.
7:00 Intermediate - Mix up your hand holds and try out these fun move variations.
7:30 Beginning Swing -We'll get you on the dance floor and having a bit of fun no matter how many left feet you have!

For anyone who's interested in getting more involved at Sunday Swing- we have 2 volunteer positions open. They each have an every other week commitment level. Shifts days/times can be traded with other volunteers as needed assuming someone is available to trade. Talk to Mindy for more info.
