Today we’re honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day with learning about the Suquamish & Coast Salish tribes whose ancestral land is where Holy Water resides. The name Suquamish (dxʷsəq’ʷəb in Lashootseed) translates to “people of the clear salt water”, being named after the beach in front of the mother village of Old Man House on Agate Passage. The Suquamish tribe is known for their expert fisherman, canoe building, basket weaving, & cultural preservation.

It’s important to remember the significance of days like Indigenous People’s Day, especially in the PNW, as it celebrates & commemorates the lives, culture & deep history of Indigenous American Peoples. We wouldn’t be here, literally, without these tribes, individuals, & the vast knowledge that has been contributed throughout time. We are beyond grateful.
