April is officially Reentry Month and we are super excited at Booker's Restaurant and Bar to announce that during the month of April, we will host a series of 'Dinner and Conversations' with formerly incarcerated individuals turned successful entrepreneurs. We believe there's no better time than now to begin discussing the benefits of entrepreneurship and ownership.

First up for a fireside chat is fashion designer and CEO Darrell Alston, owner of the sneaker and brand apparel 'Bungee Obleceni.' Darrell's rise from being sentenced to life in prison to becoming a successful business owner truly illustrates how grit and determination beat the odds every time.

Booker Wright was an unsung African American who lived in Greenwood, Mississippi in the 1960's. He was the only Black waiter at a "Whites Only" restaurant called, "Lusco's". Booker was forced to memorize and recite their whole menu by mouth for every customer that walked through the doors.
Despite being mistreated by customers and called racial slurs, he always remained positive and kept a smile on his face. NBC interviewed him at the restaurant in 1965 about his experiences there. He was a man of great courage! NBC video footage of Booker Wright is below.
