Notes: Le Club Artemis was a legendary Philadelphia nightclub in the 1970s and 1980s, located on the 2000 block of Sansom Street in Center City. The club was one of the first hip and happening hotspots in the city, run by local impresario David Carroll, and was known for its sophisticated atmosphere, dancing, drinking, and a mix of musicians and “hipsters” from the Square. It was often described as “Studio 54 before there was a studio 54”
Today, the original space is part of a former firehouse on Sansom Street, now used for other purposes, but it remains a notable landmark for those who remember the club’s heyday
If you’re looking for the site today, it’s still in the same general area — the 2000 block of Sansom Street — though the building has been repurposed and no longer operates as a nightclub.
