Check out this bottle of Aquavit that I bought a few months ago! ๐พ It's from a local distillery called Pollyanna in Chicago, which is known for brewing beer and distilling spirits. I finally got the chance to give it a try, and it did not disappoint.
Did you know that the birth of aquavit dates back to 1531? In a letter from Danish Lord Eske Bille of Bergenhus castle, he sent a spiced liquor to the Norwegian bishop Olav Engelbrektsson, claiming it could cure any illness. While the belief in its healing powers may have faded, aquavit is still considered a great choice to aid digestion after a hearty meal.
Pollyanna's Aquavit is 80 proof and has a distinct flavor profile of caraway, dill, star anise, and citrus. I absolutely love supporting local businesses, especially when they create such delicious spirits.
The Norwegian Negroni was created by Kevin Ludwig of Beaker & Flask in Portland, Oregon? Kevin, an experienced bartender who has worked at some of the best bars in Portland, signed the lease for his own bar in 2007. Although Beaker & Flask sadly closed in 2013, we're still keeping the spirit of this fantastic drink alive! Let's raise a glass to Kevin for creating this modern classic. ๐ฅโจ
Come join me this Friday from 5-8 and give this amazing cocktail a try! Let's celebrate the flavors of aquavit and toast to local distilleries. Cheers!
