A long time ago the Ruby Room -- located by Lake Merritt and the courthouses in Oakland, CA -- was a joint called the Courthouse Lounge. Years later, the place was violently taken over by some young upstarts obsessed with black paint, glitter, and red lighting. They built a booth in the corner with turn-tables and cleaned the hardware store out of red rope-lighting, red

light bulbs, and red-tinted lighting fixtures. They kept the pool table and the faux rock wall above the back-bar.
