Well this is it, amigxs.
Over the course of almost a year, what was born out of a performance art project in Bogotá has transformed into a full-fledged community in the Bay Area, built by the passion to just simply come together every second Wednesday of the month. To ‘perrear’? Oh yeah, but more than anything, to celebrate our ‘latinidad’ in unison. To break the norm that has always dictated Latin dance in our native countries and make it available for all of us q***r people.
We have met such amazing, talented people during this entire time. Beautiful bodies of all colors that have shown their fly moves, but also, their talent and skills as a powerful contribution to this movement. We have and will always be indebted to you for welcoming us into your heart. This goes out to not only the DJs, the performers and the club owners, but to each and every single one of you who have attended our parties.
However, we’ve come to the realization that our ‘Baila Conmigo’ parties have run their course. As of this moment, there will be no other event organized by us. We want to take advantage of this time to focus on an even bigger undertaking—the launch of NOS, a q***r Latinx media platform that aspires to connect us all through stories and videos published online. It’s an ambitious task, but one that we feel very strongly about. Clearly, it hasn’t been easy, but your generous donation at these events have made most of it very possible. We are close to reach the latter stages of our launch, planning and producing content for our website, which will be unveiled sooner rather than later. Because it is such a big project, we also want to welcome volunteers who would want to help us achieve our goal, the goal of the entire LGBTQI+ Latinx community. If you are and have been compelled by our mission, do not hesitate to contact us with your interest and ideas at [email protected]. Again, this is just on “volunteer” basis only.
For now, there’s one word to say, and that is “Thanks.” Thank you Sean Sullivan and Richard "Ritchie" Fuentes and the entire The Port Bar staff for believing in us and allowing us to have our parties there in Oakland. Thank you Emjay Mercury, Le Heaux, Fíera Morena, Jesús U. BettaWork, Iman, The Rexy Project, and Kevin Abrams for your amazing performances. Thanks to our fabulous DJs…. Kimberlynn Avocado (La Femme Papi), Móny BC, Mala Vida, Trilce Santana, Namaste Shawty, Glo, Frida Ibarra and Jose Ivan Sanchez (Pi**he Pobrecito) for those BOPS! Thanks to Luis Gutierrez-Mock and the family of In Lak ech Dance for being such strong supporters. And finally…thanks to all of you who came through at these get-togethers!
*** WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE ROOTS OF BAILA CONMIGO AND WILL CONTINUE ORGANIZING PUBLIC PERFORMANCES TO CREATE COMMINITY THROUGH DANCE. CONTACT US IF INTERESTED!!!!***
If you haven’t already, please follow NOS on Instagram This Is NOS and stay tuned to our launch.
¡Sigan bailando!
