We all know by now The Black Party® is happening on March 22,2025, but did you know The Saint Foundation contributed over 100 items to “Disco: I’m Coming Out,” an ambitious exhibition running at the Philharmonie de Paris from February 14 - August 17?
The exhibition includes (translated from the exhibition website): “A set of audiovisual archives, photographs, instruments, costumes, design objects and works of art underlines the political and festive dimension of this music that has brought different minorities and social classes to the dance floor, all brought together in the same hedonistic momentum.
Accompanied by a soundtrack mixed by Dimitri from Paris, the exhibition emphasizes the aesthetics that disco has aroused among artists and designers.”
Items on loan from The Saint Foundation include remastered recordings of Warren Gluck Live at the Saint and Larry Levan Live at the Paradise Garage; Saint poster-sized invitations; architectural drawings; projected slides of the club’s legendary dome; percussion instruments used on the club’s suspended dance floor; a rare collection of matchbooks from gay bars and clubs; locker tags; membership cards from gay s*x clubs and the Saint. Sure to be a highlight is a florescent painting, Blessed Art Thou Our Saturday Night, by Mel Cheren—the financial backer of The Paradise Garage and owner of West End Records — along with select memorabilia from his personal collection. (The Saint Foundation controls much of Mel Cheren’s personal archive, a gift from Brent Nicholson Earle and A.R.E.A.)
Frankly, the Philharmonie de Paris building is giving disco vibes, though it’s actually covered in 370,000 interlocking aluminum birds. (Second photo)
