STAND WITH PRIDE

No matter the circumstances today, Alibi Lounge—my house—remains the creation I hold with the deepest pride. A place born of vision, built through sacrifice and hard work, but also love and passion, and sustained by all of you who have turned it into a pioneering and exceptional LGBTQ legacy.

I will not let my house, our house, and its symbol be destroyed and tarnished by greedy, lying, conniving, agreement-breaching, two-faced, backstabbing individuals.

Six months ago to the day today, Allen Hassel stole for no other reason than He could do it.
Six months later, He is making money and has not shown any intention to do the right thing.
We are literally drowning. Debts, health, housing, legal issues, direct consequences of actions, and He knows it.

For 224 days, Alan Hassell has been running Alibi Lounge, profiting from my 10 years of sacrifice, while refusing to pay the money he legally owes me.

For 133 days, since the payment deadline on October 6, 2024, he has ignored his contract, leaving me in financial devastation, unable to go home to my dying mother.

Every single day that passes, he gets richer, and I sink deeper into debt.

Meanwhile, the real estate brokers who orchestrated this scam walked away with tens of thousands of dollars, and no one has held them accountable.

On July 8th, 2024, Alibi Lounge was sold to unscrupulous individuals who have blatantly breached their contract and refused to pay what they owe—despite clear terms in the agreement.

We’ve been left in financial disarray, struggling to make ends meet, while these individuals sit in our Lounge—the first 🌈 Lounge in Harlem. A space that we fought to build and protect through countless challenges.

Even after admitting to their , they have refused—without reason—to honor their obligations. For over four months, we’ve been left without the funds owed for the asset purchase, while they profit off Alibi’s name and legacy.

When we saw Carlos’s review, it became clear: we can’t stay silent anymore. The truth must come out.

As someone who has faced firsthand the predatory tactics of brokers while selling my business, Alibi Lounge, I know how critical these changes are. In my case, the broker charged a staggering 12% commission AND forced me to pay a $3,500 portion of a $35,000 lease commission—for a lease I had no role in negotiating. They took $35,000 upfront in fees, abandoned their fiduciary duty, and left me financially devastated while the buyer continues to evade full payment.

This isn’t just about commissions—it’s about transparency, accountability, and protecting sellers, landlords, and tenants alike from exploitation. Stories like mine highlight the urgent need for reform and oversight in the real estate industry.

The New York City Council has passed a bill that would require landlords to pay for the rental brokers they hire. Some brokers believe it will hurt tenants in the long run.
