Dear Friends,

I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on Alex’s condition. I am quite sorry I haven’t done sooner. First let me thank you again for everyone’s incredible kindness, especially during these very difficult financial times for everyone. It’s quite telling; we will pull through this and if anything validates that premise is the selflessness you have all shown.

Alex is stable, still under careful medical supervision. He was scheduled to have a minor surgery to have one of his catheters changed. His ribs infection and wounds are still healing although still very much under careful watch.

He is still sedated although he sometimes comes out of unconsciousness; when he does, he reacts when friends and family speak to him although very distantly and absently. He almost certainly gets excited and medical puts him under sedation soon after. When he reacts, he tends to jolt and move his body too fast, preventing his wounds to heal properly so medical team tries to keep him sedated. They have ordered for visitors to watch him from a distance for now while they keep him fully sedated and still. And only one person at a time. Medical team says that this will be a long recovery for Alex as his injuries were quite severe.

Friends and family in NY have been jn touch with his mama in Mexico. They have processed an emergency visa for her to come see her son. She is quite elderly and given the current Covid situation, some family members here naturally are very concerned for her welfare as well. We will all continue to advise but at the end of the day, it may be impossible to keep her away from her son.

Thank you again for your kindness, selflessness, and support towards this GoFundMe campaign. We will all do what we can to continue to share his story and hopefully raise more funds towards his recovery.

Thank you everyone for all your super kind donations for Alex thus far. Amazingly, we have achieved 60% of our funding goal and we hope to continue our rally with your much needed help. We are very humbled by everyone's kindness and messages of support. Please feel free to pass on/post on this fundraising effort if you have a little time.

After 4 operations, Alex just came out of a fifth one a few minutes ago to successfully have his breathing tubes changed. There was a major complication on his left rib cage with a fairly bad infection as a result of the broken multiple ribs injury he had endured. Fortunately, doctors were able to spot it and address it accordingly. Doctors had been concerned infection would move to his heart area, causing another serious problem. They will continue to monitor it. Friends and family and all of you remain by his side physically and in spirit. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will send some updates on his health as we hear from the medical team at Bellevue.

Alex had gone missing since Sunday February 23 and was recently found at Bellevue Medical Center in critical condition after falling into a moving subway at Astor Place in NYC. While we all are extremely happy to have found him , we are left with many questions and disheartened. After a desperate search, we just learned that he has unfortunately suffered severe injuries, losing both of his arms. Alex continues to be unconscious, unaware of his circumstances and extremely sedated.

Many of us have have gotten to know Alex through work, he has probably served many of us a drink at various nightclubs in the city. For some of us, he also is a friend, a colleague, a cousin, a father and husband. For some others, he is a wonderful, caring , funny friendly face who, we shared a drink, laughed with and probably cried at times. He is hard working and a genuine human being looking for what we all seek, some happiness and opportunities in this tough city

I know we may get these types of go-fund me pleas and while they have legitimate purposes, we are asking that you consider this and help a little, even if it is just a few dollars. Or please feel free to send this campaign to your friends and family. Maybe they will also be moved as we all are and decide to help. While no amount of money can turn back the clock, we hope that the generosity of many of us can given Alex, and his family some financial room with which to even contemplate the hard and difficult journey they will face for years to come.
